same prob

guys I am having this exact same problem!!! I just recently had this happen to me about a week ago before I put on a slip on exhaust so I know it cannot be the exhaust. It tries to stall out during high rpms and I see the red light go off and sometimes it will actually cut off and I will restart while on the highway. Usually its more of a surge it will drop down in rpms and then pick back up. Ive been riding it to get more diagnosis on it and usually before its about to die I can hear the bike sputtering. Too rich? I have an 03 with just a Yoshi slip on. Any advice or any ideas of where to start would really help guys. Thanks in advance.

Solution!!!! Okay I found that my ground on my battery was loose. I tightened it and thus far I have not felt the surge or the bike trying to stall at high speeds. Question though just as a learning experience. How would a loose terminal cause the battery to try to turn off at high speeds? We have a sort of alternator dont we? Is it because it is alot smaller that it will not run for long periods of time without it? Anyone that can answer this question for me its just for my information purposes. Thanks in advance =]

the answer you are looking for is that:
Yes - you have an alternator
&
No - your bike will NOT run without a battery.

If you want more info than that PM Knightslugger...

When I rev the engine past 9 or 10k rpm it cuts in and out until I bring it back under 10k. Almost like I am hitting the rev limiter. The engine runs mint under 10k.

I thought it might be the secondary fuel injectors but im not sure cause the manual says they kick in at 4500rpm. When I first start the bike it does not give me any errors or lights, but when it hits higher than 10k rpm it gives me the 2 error lights, but they turn off as soon as the rpms go back down.

Any ideas?

No PC3., I did take my setup apart to replace my throttle cables though. But I would think if there was a problem or error or something it would show up when i start the bike.

Every time over 10k, the FI light and the HESD light. Could it be because of lack of power? I recently installed my alarm and all my lights.
1. I am going to try to unplug the alarm.
2. I am going to check for any pinched fuel lines.

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Over 10k every time it acts like its gonna stall, or like its hitting the rev limiter at 10k. But after I let off the throttle to below 10k, it continues to run mint after a second.

Does it happen at partial throttle or full throttle, doesn't matter?

I ran her in the garage today, started her up, kept her in neutral, let her warm up all the way, then reved it right up to 15k, it ran perfect. Let it run a few more min, rev it a couple times back up to 14-15k its mint, then about the 5-6th rev up there I experience the same problem. Anything over 10k rpm it acts like it hits the rev limiter, and shows the HESD and FI lights for 1 sec, then when I release the throttle it goes back to running mint. Never stalls completely out. Then I rev it a few more times and sometimes, randomely it goes up to 15krpm smoothley then other times I have that prooblem.

sounds like a loose power connection from the battery. some people have had similar issues.

I checked the battery with a meter today, it was mint. I jammed the tester probes into the connections so I wouldnt have to hold them, then I tried to re-create the problem to see what happens to the voltage during the problem. After 5-6 times of reving up to 15k rpm there was no problems so I stoped, figure I would give the neighbors a break and took her for a ride. A couple minutes down the road I rev it up with the clutch in just to see if it happens, and it did.

I will try messing around with the battery connection tomorrow and see if it helps.

Thanks for all your help Knightslugger.

Blech, alarm huh? i'm out then.

i don't really get involved when butchering of the electrical system occurs.

though here's a thought: The battery isn't the only place cables are connected... there are two ends to each one. if you haven't checked those... well...

I think it might be a kink in one of the hoses, I lifted the gas tank slightly and held it up while reving, and no problems. Once it cools down Im gonna reroute the hoses and take her for a spin. Hopefully that solves the problem completely, I will report back.

Ok, tried rerouting the hoses, made sure there are no kinks or anything, and it still does it. Next I am going to check the o-rings on the fuel injectors, make sure those are clean, and the injectors themselves. I had to remove them to install new throttle cables, and I did not replace them with new ones.
The manual says to replace a bunch of stuff like the o-rings with new ones every time you remove them, is this really required?

You removed the injectors "!"?

or did you just unplug them?

for changing the throttle cables???

do they leak?
Leave them alone just make sure that each injector has the correct wires installed.

I had to unplug them to get the airbox out. They kept on falling out of the fuel rail, but never on to the ground. I want to make sure everything is tight and clean in there. I think my bike is having this problem from some sort of compression problem.

Maybe its the seal between the air box and the throttle body.

I'm currently having a similar problem and I'm going to check my battery connections today to see if that is the issue.

I did notice that Diving Pete mentioned a PC3. I do have one although this issue popped up about 8 months after it had been installed the PC3 so I don't think it is that. But if you wouldn't mind please explain what could be the issue with the PC3.

Thanks guys

Sure enough the negative battery connection was loose.

I'll let you all know if I have any other issues or if this doesn't solve it.
