CCT? replaced but still making noise!! did i install right?

I have a 2003, 600rr, it has about 15k miles, been using 5-40 synthetic rotella last 10k, recently had oil changed 300 miles ago.

The problem Ive noticed? upon deceleration (only)... around 3500-7500 RPM's i hear this noise that almost sounds like the brake pads are rubbing, kind of like a "shhhhhhh_____________shhhhhhh__________shhhhhhhh_ ________shhhhhhh".

If i pull in the clutch, the bike makes no noise.... if i hit the brakes the noise continues. While the bike is in neutral i can rev through the whole RPM range with no noise.

I figure from reading on here, it would be the CCT, right? well i replaced it with a brand new stock unit... it now seems to make slightly less noise, but its still there.... can it take a while for the CCT to tighen up? did i miss a step?

HELP!!!!

Install procedure was as followed:

1. remove old CCT, by removing 2 screews popped right out.

2. Remove the bolt behind the old CCT, (not sure what its really for).

3. Install new CCT, screw in both bolts tightly.

4. Remove little pin behind the CCT(The pin that holds the CCT from popping out), which causes the CCT to expand and open up.

5. Put the bolt on the new CCT that came off the Old CCT.

Thats pretty much it? did i miss something?

whatever noise you're hearing- it doesn't sound like it's coming from the CCT. your '03 cbr600rr should not have needed a CCT replacement at only 15,000 miles. the fact that you do not hear the noise when you rev the bike in neutral means (to me) that it is not the CCT. if it was the CCT, it would probably make the same noise when revving in neutral. the noise may be normal and you're just paranoid. do you experience a lack of power or feel any difference in the way the bike functions when it makes this "noise" or is it just a "noise" you hear with no real effect on performance? if the latter, it may just be normal.

bike runs great!, has plenty of power, burns no oil and has had no issues apart from this noise.

The noise is pretty darn loud on deceleration, i've own this bike for the last 2 years and 10,000 and i am 100% sure it was not there 3 weeks ago.

It seems to have came within a 100 miles after the oil change....

right after the oil change i did a quick trip to a friends house about 100 miles away, on the way back is when i started noticing it.

Same oil as before (rotella full synthetic 5-40)... and same filter (honda stock).

i dont feel anything on the bike apart from the sound... almost like something is scrapping.

ill check how much clutch pressure is needed for it to go away on the ride home today, i do know its only under deceleration which is weird, can the chain do anything that would cause something like this?

hmmm.... i don't know about this noise. since you replaced the CCT with a new one, I think you need to look at other avenues as the CCT theory has now been eliminated. i would have to hear the noise to really have a good sense of what's going on. if the bike runs fine, i'd just get used to it.

do you clean and adjust your chain regularly ?? if not you need to check the chain and make sure its tight and you dont have a link binding .. if you put it on a stand and rotate the tire you will see the chain slack shorten up if there is a seized link ..

chain is cleaned and got adjusted about 1000 miles ago (new tires)... i did notice one of the links did seem a bit "stuck" when i last cleaned it (same time as oil change).... ill double check the chain tonight i hope thats all it is.

well i just went out to the parking lot.... chain looks like it has way too much play (it wasn't like that this weekend)... so it sounds like its binding somewhere and in certain area's its tighter than others. Hopefully this is all the problem is, i sprayed some WD40 (all i have at work) to see if it helps any. Once i get home ill adjust the chain and clean/lube it to see if thats the cause.

Thanks guys
