Well, it seems the ignition button was throwing me down the wrong path! After a bit of messing today, I eventually got to the point where the fuse would blow as soon as the key was turned so this took the ignition button out of the equation. I then stripped all the fairings looking for somewhere the wire could be chaffed but found nothing. I went for a coffee and when I walked back into the garage I noticed that the tail light was off and after 30 seconds of hunting, I found that the lead was touching the exhaust and had melted. I've now repaired the wire and tucked it out of harms way and all is good again. Just a pity that the label on the fusebox says that the fuse only does the cluster. If it had said it did the tail light too, I could have saved myself a hell of a job stripping all the fairings off!
