odd acceleration

Well i have a 05 600rr and im noticing a odd acceleration with my bike...when on full throttle or atleast close to it seems the bike accelerates and then drops off a bit and lags at 9k rpm and then again at 12 and then its fine..so it pulls, lags and then pulls and lags and then pulls...is this normal...or could it be another issue.

The bike is stock other then a yoshi slipon and there is no map done on it.

Does it make any odd noises at those points? The secondary injectors kick in around 7k so it doesn't sound like a clogged secondary affecting performance. Does the engine sputter at those points or does it just lag off a split second then surge up the rpms?

or at 5500 RPM @ >50* throttle app...

but i'd be interested to know how exactly it lags as well... if it's just a dead spot or it actually bucks.

I couldn't remember off the top of my head exactly when the secondaries openned - knew they were open above 7k on the tach tho, long before the observed lag at 9k

edit - forgot to say originally too - lag at those points is not normal, should pull cleanly and hard north of 7k clear to redline (as long as you aren't already doing 135+)

It doesnt buck persay..it just lags a touch and then surges i guess is a good word to use...its not a inear pull what so ever. It seems to be around 9000rpm and 12000 rpm.

Does the engine sound like it's combusting smoothly at those points or does it sound like it misses a stroke momentarily?

Thinking maybe you've got a slightly fouled plug or 2 - still a bit stumped on this one tho so I'm educationally guessing at this point

Hmm its so hard to explain...sometimes it just lags for a second and then times like today it fell on its face so hard it was like i let the gas off and then i let the gas off and got into it again and it was fine for the short burst.

If it helps the bike was in a accident before i bought it..

Maybe a pinched fuel line (if the bike was in an accident, this could have happened during reassembly) or blocked air filter?

quite fix: buy a new bike...

j/k

if you down shift at the 9000 does it still feel less powerful or it is just the gear you are in?

Have you messed with the exhaust valve at all? That's exactly what happened to me when I disconnected the servo but didn't have it secured right.

Have you ever had the tank out to check the throttle bodies and velocity stacks - might have a crack in one, that would give you oddball behaviour

No i havent..i changed the air filter but didnt pay that much attention to the velocity stacks..the accident was minimal and really just rashed the plastics mostly...

I have been playing with it over the past couple days and it feels like its mis firing to me....now its just dying and sputtering.

The bike has 24,000km so im starting to think maybe its just the plugs have lived thier life

fuel pump....do a search. Very common. My street bike(03) went out last year with the exact symptoms you stated, and yesterday my trackbike(04) went out.

I'd go with checking the plugs first - at 24k they might be a bit dirty or fouled - either way it'll tell you something about what's been thru the ignition chamber...

Color looks Ok (hard to see like you said) any part of the cathode or annode missing (divot, pit, etc)? btw I would think if the screen on the fuel pump was clogged it wound't be so predictable rpm wise it would be much more random as to when you got the lag/launch behavior

well all the issues im having is very common with the 03-04's and thier fuel issues.

I go tthe bike together enough to ride it so ill take it for a burn and see if the plugs helped..if not ill pull the pump and check the screen. Clean it and try it again..if that doesnt help ill have to rig something up for the fuel pressure and make sure that is constant.

The plugs are not bad, I kept them as there is no real big problems with them.

Well i got it all back together and for a ride and its fixed!!!

It was either the plugs which i bet helped for sure or a squished fuel line...so thank you all for the right direction and help...time to go ride!!!!
