ticking/grinding sound after installing rearsets

i powder coated my stock rearsets and after installing the shifter, i am getting a ticking/grinding sound that only happens when the kickstand is down (the sound seems to be coming from the gearbox). When the bike is upright, the ticking/grinding sound cant be heard. I know when installing back the shifter, i had trouble getting it back in there and was trying my best to gently tap it in. It was finally able to install it and took for a run, all gears shift fine. Just the weird sound when the kickstand is down. Im hoping i didnt damage anything. Any thoughts on what the sound can be? (04, 6k miles, just cleaned and lubed the chain too)
