stompgrip not sticking!!

hey guys, I just put my stompgrip on following the directions to a T. Now every 30 sec I keep having to press the bottom on each side down... what to do?!



Currently have an XR650L thumper

RIP 06 600RR

You could apply some heat with a hair dryer while pushing down on it. Don't do it too long though as you don't want to melt your plastics. The heat will aid in the bonding process.

reclean the thank surface, use a blow dryer or heat gun on the tank surface, reapply stomp grip.

ok, it seems to be sticking better, I just keep holding it down and going over it. Its only a few mm at the bottom of the tank on each side. I think its because I mounted them to where they go a few mm around the bottom edge. u guys think it will pan out alright after it gets settled on or should I really reapply?

damn, its not sticking. maybe I cleaned the surface too well. i waxed yesterday so its so slick I wonder if that has something to do with it? I give up, we'll see how it looks in the mornin and after a few rides. i know some guys said to order direct from stompgrip because of shelf life and there's a new stompgrip, but I already ordered from motorcycle-superstore with some other stuff a couple weeks ago

did you clean the surface with rubbing alcohol prior to putting them on?

honstly, this is what i have to do with work problems,

take the stomp grip off, heat the sticky side up with a blow dryer, enough that it is hurting your hands, then try to apply it then.

I had to go to the ER tonite for heart problems. Crazy stuff. I just got out. Needless to say I couldnt fix my stompgrip. I'll see if its not seeming to stick tomorrow I'll pull it off and do that. thanks for all your replies

Go get some 3M wax and adhesive remover. Pull the Stompgrip off, wipe down with the 3M product, and then reapply the Stompgrip using some heat if necessary. You'll have to re-wax any area you used the 3M product on as it will strip the wax off.

I don't even use wax. . .just Plexus. When I installed my Tech Spec pads, I just wiped it down with some alcohol pads and installed. Then took it for a ride and the engine heat helped to get all the edges to stick.

Just another thought. . if you can't get the 3M product, Dawn dish washing liquid will also strip the wax off. You'll just have to make sure you rinse it all off and then wipe it down with an alcohol pad before installation. With the 3M wax and adhesive remover, it will evaporate on its own.

thx cnk, I did this last night and they really are sticking pretty good except the very edges. the center has some air pockets where you can tell the pad isnt touching, but its not too bad. I tried everything to get them perfect but just didnt work.

would it be bad if I wait til tomorrow to do this? I just got out of the ER this morning and was diagnosed with heart problems and really dont want to get out of bed. I gotta go to some kind of specialized cardiologist monday and Im not supposed to be doing much.

I wouldn't think it would hurt to wait until you are feeling better. Health is more important than a bike.

As for the edges, go for a few rides. . .they may settle down on their own. My Tech Spec pads' edges were not sticking a tiny bit and after a few rides, they are fine now. The heat from the engine and squeezing the tank with your legs while riding will help them to stick.

aight, sure seems like they are so close to being just right that a few rides should make them good enough. I dont care about it being the prettiest, I want the function.
