wont shift gears. help

my buddy has a gixxer and he installed a new clutch cable and chain. and now the bike wont shift gears. it will stay in 4th or 2nd or whatever it pretty much wants to do. we cant figure out whats wrong. and yes the clutch cable is not adjusted too tight or anything lol.

anyone know what the problem could be?

oh, this one's easy........ IT'S A GIXXER!!! no, seriously, sounds like maybe the clutch isn't fully disengaging. don't gixxers have hydraulic clutches?
