Problem Starting 91

OK...
I just signed up, posted in the 'new members' and now here I am.

I bought a 91 CBR600 as a project bike, had it running like a dream as of Sunday afternoon. Then it stalled out and will no longer start.

All the info I can think of...
The sparkplugs are good, I just pulled them and checked that there is spark
The kill switch is a non issue because I pulled and by-passed it
The air filter was oiled Sunday morn but removed it acts the same
When I connected the front faring (turn signals, head light) I blew the fuse, troubleshot this and believe I found the root cause, however this is also (in my belief) the cause of the bike no longer starting.
Battery is new and fully charged when attempting to start (13.5+)
All fuses check good
Gas is getting to the carbs and the plugs are coming out wet
When I took the plugs out and cleaned them the same thing is happening
When I turn the key on all meter lights come on
When I hit the start switch everything turns over but nothing fires
Help!
Any hints at all please, I am a novice so plainspeak is always better
I will follow through after work tommorrow.

OK, back again

Can anyone offer an opinion on these troubleshooting ideas...

new plugs
remove the pulse generator and clean (really don't want to do this)
spray seafoam down in the carbs

Any other ideas????

have you tried choking it?

You say you oiled the air filter, I know that excessive oil and drip back and cover openings/sensors/etc, though I'm not sure how that would cause this condition. Just trying to think of ideas, I'm not as adept as other members that post here but I try to help where I can.

choke

choke full open/full closed is not making any difference, when I oiled the air filter it was out of the bike and left a full night to prevent drip.
I have tried seafoam to no avail, checked both coils just to be sure....
I am still at a loss, gonna do a little more research and then have another go at it.

have you tried putting some carb cleaner in the cylinders? maybe the carbs aren't flowing fuel or air or both in correctly. perhaps your intake boots have come loose? check their seal.

are u getting spark to the plugs?
try the old test method, pull the plug out and see if it arcs to to something metal.

maybe some filter oil got in, maybe give it a light spray of starting fluid, and i mean light.

spark/cleaner

all wires off the coils tested good for spark

carbs were cleaned/checked by someone smarter than me

I went out and sprayed more seafoam in while cranking (no tank) and got a few sputters and back fires...got some hope up...hooked up the tank and have only gotten a few more sputters (prepare to yell) after holding the start button in for about 15 or 20 mins the most I am seeing come out the pipe is wisps of smoke.

This is with the choke fully open and the idle speed manual adjuster? backed out all the way (this is the flex line that comes out from the center of the carb to the left side of the bike with a thumb screw on it)

battery is still reading great ( when it gets low I hook it to a car battery - another no no but the car is never running) now it is on the charger again just to keep it up.

I really hope that this is something simple that I am over looking, as I said it ran great up until Sunday afternoon.

don't hold the start button for 15-20 minutes. you're gonna overheat the starter. hold it only for a few seconds, then let it rest for 30 more seconds, etc... this is the sort of problem where i'd really like to see the bike myself and try some little finessing wit the choke/throttle/starter button.

I wish that you could see the bike as well. Dr Go

I have been looking for answers and finding none.
Back to the manual....
I have not physically pulled the fuel strainer, but the flow of gas is good from the petcock ... pulled a vacuum on it and the flow is excellent.

how would i check to see that a float valve is stuck open?

or a 'Slow circuit of starting enrichment circuit clogged'?

and should I pull the carbs (again) and reset all the jets then have them sync'd?

I really don't want to keep throwing money away if it is something really simple.

If I have time in the morn I'll pull the plugs and clean them again at work to see if that will help, but i'll check here 1st.

My bed is calling, thanks for the help today, hopefully I'll hear it running again tommorow.

OK, progress update

sandblasted the plugs at work today, put the clean plugs in, fitted the air filter on (no screws) and hooked up the gas.

did not hold the starter in for more than 30 secs and she fired up nice, a little touchy at first but hope all goes well and she starts again.

Maybe I just need to keep 2 sets of plugs for this one?
