Check your idle adjustment screw.

Do you mean, Hand off of the throttle and it runs 3k or let the enging go below 3k and it dies?

If it just idles at 3k, make sure there is coolant in the bike. The computer has to know the engine temp to adjust the idle... Ex. cold enging idle is like 2k ...hot engine like 1.3k when it is warm. The temp sensor for the ECU reads it from the coolant temp. Your instrument cluster gets that info from somewhere else, I believe. (EDIT - I think I'm wrong on that one)

If that is good, adjust the idle screw.

If that doesn't change the speed, there is something telling the engine to run fast and that will override the idle screw. Something like a vacuum hose or a sensor.

Good luck.
