foam underneath fairings

So i'm in the process of piecing my bike back together, however i realized there was sponge foam on the back side of the side fairings, and i was wondering if this is very crucial to have on? THe side fairings that i put on does not have any foam. Does this really help with rattling or vibrations or anything like that? Do i need to get some and put it on?

you dont need it but it does cut down rattle noise, one set of my fairings has it and the other doesn't and there really is no big difference in extra noise

I've had to cut out sections for sliders before. The old mounting bolt where the slider is mounted is really the only location where the foam contacts anything. I don't notice any unsettling vibrations coming from the side fairings.
