Sv650 problem. Friends bike

I have a cbr but my friend just got a 2000 sv650 trackbike. It's been sitting for 3 year. He said the headers are glowing red, bike back fires and it does not idle unless turned all the way up. It's only front headert that turns red. Any ideas what it could be? sounds like it is running rich. I know it's not a cbr but I think this is the most knowlegable forum online. Thanks

I'd say rebuild the carb and might as well slap some new jets in there while your at it. Sounds like she's running rich and the timing is off.

If it sat for that long and now runs lean or rich and does not idle... the carbs need to be cleaned and maybe even new jets.

Tell him to buy a CBR, that should solve the problem.

he adjusted the floats in the carbs and its now running much better. he said pipes still get a little hot and that he took out the jets and looked at them and they were clean.
