Engine seized @#%

God damn,

If I didnt have bad luck I'd have no friggin luck at all.

Went to Monticello for Superbike Track Time day out there.
Go to unload my bike and have a brain freeze while talking with my
dad and undo the straps on the side of the kick stand.
My bike proceeds to eject itself over the side of my trailer and
down on to the pavement, completely upside down.
It stays that way while 5 other guys and I debate how best to
pick it up and flip without more plastic damage.
Anyway after getting upright I let it sit a awhile then try to
fire it up. Like a half turn of the start and stop.
Thinking its an electrical problem...I try again then push start it.
Nothing just a rear tire skid mark on the ground.

So I'm guessing its maybe hydrolock from being upside down
or from the huge rain I had to drive through to get to Monticello
and thought maybe I have water in the cylinders...well with plugs out
something. Greater Boston Motorsports tells me its possibly a
bent valve or connceting rod... oh ****... what's next?
How could I have dont that?
What a bent valve cost to fix?

Jeez that really sucks, really sorry to hear that. If this is a shop you trust than take their word. If not, ask them if you can watch them tear the engine apart. I am not expert but I don't see how you could have bent a valve.

That really sucks. I've done it too but not with my bike fortunately. If it's a bent valve the engine may still rotate but not have any compression, as the valve would already be bent. Hydrolocking it without it running shouldn't cause serious damage and you'd have seen the fluid when you pulled the plugs. Can you remove that cover and turn the engine manually, in either direction?

Well first off, to use the Lord's name like will just add to your problems. Maybe not just today but the rest of your life and on into eternity. So, you need toget right with the Lord.

Next, what do you mean by, "...well with plugs out something. " Did you take the plugs out and try to crank it over. This motor is capable of over 100HP and 15000RPMs. I don't think the starter motor is even close to being strong enough to bend a rod or bend anything in the motor for that matter.

First, take the plugs out and give it a spin. ( if you already haven't)
Then check the battery. A jolt has been known to knock the plates loose inside and ruin the battery.

remove the spark plugs, and your timing cover and turn it over by hand. i doubt you've bent a valve, unless that was a monster of a bump start.

Yeah what I meant was plugs are out. And engine will still not
turn over.

Repeated attempts to roll start it could have done it I'm not sure.
I had 5-30 full syn in there and maybe that is viscous enough to get around the rings or valve seals?

"This motor is capable of over 100HP and 15000RPMs. " I know what you mean, I mean you can be going 50 mph toward a corner and shift accidently into first and still drive away unscathed... but the reality is what it is. I don't think for a minute the shop would fabricate this issue. they make money on rapid turn over with little things not something like this. As most likely I'll walk and search for a cheap used engine.

I still find it really hard to believe that a hydrolockd motor would get damaged by trying to start it with the starter or even bump starting it. But, if you have the plugs out and it still won't spin... obviously something's wrong.

Before I threw in the towel and looked for a new motor, I'd pull the clutch cover and take a look around.

hmm.. ill go ahead and say i dont know that much yet about bikes... but could it be the BAS? maybe you took it out, i dunno, but maybe it got jacked in the fall and now it wont let you start? just a thought. good luck man, i hope its an easy fix.

What I have been told BAS failure will let the engine turn over but
not fire up. My Bike wouldn't turn over. (ie. mechanical stoppage
not electrical cutoff.)

Well I just got off the phone with the service guy and it was
hydrolocked with oil. Dodged a bullet there but they still had to
open the head so its not super cheap either but I'll take it
over a bent rod! I had 0-30wt oil in there so now I'm going back to spec
not sure if it helps but will make me rest easier.

damn you beat me to the punch... i had this happen to my lawn mower the other day...flooded with gas and becam hydroed... good to here you are okay... the 5 min upside down gave it way :)

just happened to my bike. i pulled out the spark plugs(which were drenched in oil), and turned the crank by hand. a ton of oil squirted out. and now she starts. do you guys think its a bad idea to let the residual oil in the cylinders burn off?

I'd let it burn off. What else can you do really. Maybe shoot some compressed air into the plug hole but other then that...
