**PLEASE HELP**Cam Chain tensioner question

im replacin my stock cct with another stock cct...but heres wat happend i think i might have Fd up..when i took the old one out..the little long shaft part was fully extended...but when i compared it to the new one i was gonna put in..it seemed to be to short..but then i releazied there was a litte pin in the top where the screw should go..and the little shaft poped out and its the same size as the old one..but now when i go to put it in it wont fit...was i posed to wait to pull the lil pin/clamp out after i had it screwed in? when i look down the hole where it came out of i can see wats casuin it not to go in..not sure wat part that is that is blockin it(looks like a little black sqaure) maybe do i need to crank the motor over or somthing??please help? i thought this would be an easy 1 2 3 install lol..thanks
