gas gauge ?

Just started yesterday my gas light came on so I went to fill up and it only took 2 gallons so I wasn’t even low. Also it will show empty then go back up. And when I filled up it didn’t go all the way to top like on the gauge it was like a bar short. Any ideas. Those of you who have the 520 kit how much did it throw off your speedo and change your gas mileage?

mods.
aftermarket white and silver repsol fairings
diy frame plugs
asv shortys
fe
blacked out swing arm
blacked out motor
black factorey rear
factorey rotors with after market full float kit
barend mirror
911 smoked front signals
yosh rs5 slip
bmc filter
d3 grips black
d3 bar ends black
clear stomp grips
520 -1+1 super sprox (driven sucks)
crystal white head lights
white rim tape sitting on shelf
barracuda white tank protecter
fdb rearsets

i have half of the conversion only +2 in the back, i get around 120 miles to a tank. If you havent got a speedo correction device( i would get the speddoDRD form moto mummy) your miles to fuel gauge will be way off. Before i fixed my speedo i was getting 80-90 miles to a tank. This is manily city riding shifting above 7k alot, and letting the bike idle unitl the temp shows 120+

05 doubleR with a few mods and alot more to come. Just taking out one v8 at a time.

how many gallons did the tank take? if the tank only took 2. something gallons than the fuel gauge is off. But like i said you wont be able to figure out exactly wht you are getting untill your speedo is fixed, But even after that your fuel gauge might be faulty.

How many gallons did you put in? i tested mine last night i ran it untill the last bar was blinking, and this thank had alot of 13k and revlimiter shifting on it aswell as alot of idlen and the bike help 3.87 gallons and i got 127miles so i got 33 miles a gallon. Only mods i have is a 45t rear sprocket and a yoshi slip on, and it runs really rich, shifts off the rev limiter makes nice flames.

I didn't even think about this when doing my -1/+2 mod, but I'm glad I found this thread today. I filled up at the gas station because I was down to the last bar (was not blinking red yet) and it only took something like 3 gallons. I was confused, but tired and wanted to head home so I didn't think anything of it. My question is why would gearing affect the gas gauge? The gas gauge just reads the amount of fuel in the tank, does it not?

**2006 with Repsol kit**
-Full Akra Ti exhaust
-PCIII
-Flush Mounts
-DIY O2 sensor eliminator
-DIY FE
-Tripage Hugger LED mod (SICK!)
-EVAP canister GONE (must-do for aftermarket plastics on CA bikes)
-6k HIDs
-1/+2 520 conversion
-Black chinese rearsets
-Tinted DB windshield

My $.99 DIY O2 (oxygen) sensor eliminator

you are correct, the gauge reads whats in the tank, when the last bar blinks you have a gallon left, actually now that i think about it. You should get more miles to a tank with a sprocket swap. Because when you change the sprockets, you speedo reads higher which makes your miles read higher. For an example if you go a half a mile your speedo may say you went a full mile. So untill you get a speedo correction your miles per gallon will be high. Unless i just had a brain fart then this is correct.

My problem is a little of the opposite of those listed here. Yesterday my gas gauge showed that I had 3 bars out of 7 left and I ran out of gas doing 80+ on the highway. This also happened to me when it showed 2 bars left. Never seen my gauge go below 2 bars.

The bike is an 06 bone stock

You may have a bent float arm, the sensor might be going dead or you may have a bad connection somewhere, just unplug the connectors and put them back in and see what happens.
