cant reset time or miles

so i noticed that the time was off and when i went to try to reset it, i noticed that the buttons would not work at all. i could not chance from my trip a to trip b and i could not reset anything. electronics is my poor area of expertise so could someone chime in and help me out? what do you think it might be?

It's because the white buttons underneath the rubber part came loose or just fell out of place. It's a very easy fix. You will need to take your gauge off and take out the 6 screws that attach the gauge and simply put the white pieces back into place.

you dont even have to take the cluster off or apart. just pull off the rubber buttons, and do the pen mod then put the buttons back on. you can leave the white parts in the cluster. they wont hurt anything in there.

i had the same problem on my old 03. the bic pen fix in that thread linked did it for me. i don't think i took off the cluster either.

You have a 04' same as mine.... all you do is take the lower, middle cowls, air duct covers and mirrors off. Disconnect the sub harness gauge sensors located on the left side of the bike under the cowl. Once you have done all that just pull up and out comes the nose leaving the gauge cluster visible. Reverse the order to reassemble.
