small oil leak troubleshooting

swapping my fairings out yest and saw i had a small oil leak...about a drip around the filter...i checked above it doesnt look like anything is leaking from up there...any clue what could be causing it? only happens when im running the bike...if its stopped no leak...TIA

Oil filter on too loose, the seal could be damaged, mating surface could be damaged, case slightly cracked.

should i just change out the oil and filter?

You should inspect to find the cause of the leak.

Pretty much everything that Demented said. I had a Honda oil filter on my wife's track bike develop a pinhole last year at a track day. That was the first time I've ever seen a filter get one and I've been riding for a loooong time. Start the bike up (with the lowers off and see if you can tell exactly where it's coming from. Find it, fix it, problem solved.......go out and ride!

if there isn't any visible cracks or damage on the surrounding areas, it probably just needs to be tightened.

thanks guys i checked it all out and ran it and it seemed to not be leaking...rode it around a mile or so came back no leak...i wonder where the oil came from then
