Heartstopping moment!

Just had a heart stopping moment there reconnecting up the gear shift linkage.

I tried shifting gears and got to the stage where I could only shift between 4th and 5th and then wasn't getting anything else....I then realised, "oh wait a minute, the bike hasn't actually moved at all whilst I have been shifting". As I wheeled the bike forward and back and she was shifting fine again. Had me a bit worried for a while!

On a slightly related topic, does anyone know what the torque value is for the gear change lever pivot bolt on an '03 (if there is a torque). This is the big hex bolt that goes through the gear shift pedal that your foot goes on. I can't find a value anywhere in the service manual? I prefer torque values to TAF settings (tight as ****).

yea if you dont move the internals around that **** happens..
torque spec=tight enuf not to fall off, loose enuf not to break it
haha. its a 10mm head correct? just get a standard sized 10mm wrench and tighten it up. you should be able to feel when its tight enough
