smell during idle

so when my bike is idiling I sometimes smell this sweet smell, I'm wondering if oil is burning, coolant is burning, or if this is common and I just never picked up on it because I usually just take off and go

yup, why would I be smelling that? The bike is cold, could it be a radiator leak?

Its possible that fumes might be coming from the over flow bottle

would make sense....given I'm riding in cold weather now and the coolant would be expanding

have you noticed the smell in your garage? the exhaust smells kind of strange from what a cars exhaust smells like, I'm sure it's probably just the exhaust that you're smelling. sometimes I can even smell it on my hands for no apparent reason after a ride. sounds stupid, but try putting your hand on the tip of the exhaust while it's running, then smell your hand, it's probably just that.

Sweet smell = coolant.

If your bike has been at the shop recently, check to make sure the rubber cap on your coolant resevoir container has been properly snapped back on. Might be some spilled/burped coolant burning off (from being overfilled ?).
