Bike has trouble starting

Hey guys,

So I have an 07 600rr. I've recently replaced the battery and the bike is having trouble starting. I push the ignition button and it takes a while for the engine to "catch". If I let go too soon, the bike might catch, but will shut back off.

Any ideas what this could be?

I hope nothing too big, or else I might be having to choose b/n a bike and a car.

Thanks!

When you turn the key on do you hear the whine noise which tells you the fuel pump is priming
or not ?

Moeman: yes I hear the whining

Demented: Not sure. I could go check if it's on the battery. Want me to?

It should be on the battery, but what type of battery did you buy? Brand and model?

It's a "Parts Unlimited Battery" Battery: YTZ10S VIN:CTZ10S

It says in the manual OCV is 13.10V.

It was the cheaper of two batteries, but bought maybe like a month ago.

I was too lazy to take it out, but if there's more info you need, let me know.

Voltage means nothing in terms of a battery being able to start a bike.

That one is rated at 190CCA, so it should be good. Might just be a DOA battery. Take it to an autoparts store to have it load tested. If it's below 150CCA, it'll be considered bad.

Could it really be the battery? It's just not turning over, I guess.

If that's all that changed, it's possible. It's uncommon for DOA batteries, but it's more common than people think.

Hold the throttle wide open while attempting to start the bike
once it starts hold the throttle steady for a couple on minutes
until the bike picks up an idle on its own then let it idle all by itself
Holding the throttle wide open will stop the spark plugs from getting flooded
and wont foul up

I've since ridden the bike twice. Both times it started up just fine. I'm going to go get it tested tomorrow. Hopefully all will be fine.
