Kill switch problem

I'm having problems with my fuel pump priming sometimes when I go to start it.. Ive read it is most likely the kill switch.

Im trying to figure out how to remove the throttle cables inside so that I am able to remove it from the handlebar.

My bike is an 05. Anyone know of a write up or give me a step by step. I don't want to mess up the cables.

My bike is red, black, clean, waxed, and fast.

Thanks all go to Demented...

1)Turn your bars to full left lock. Makes it easier to remove the kill switch screws.
2) Pop the kill switch off the bars. You're after the switch assembly inside the housing. There's 4 small tabs that you can see through the side of the housing, 2 on each side. Push the tabs in and pry the switch out from the housing with the flathead.

3)With the switch out, pop the two pieces apart. There will be two tabs, one on each side. Here's one side popped off.

4) That will expose the contact points. You can see a little bit of pitting on my copper contacts and some grime on the silver ones. Clean off the contacts, and if needed, polish up the copper contacts with some fine grit sandpaper to get rid of excessive pitting.

5) Put together in reverse order.

Sounds like you have a pre-07 bike...
Nico's pics show an 07/08 kill switch but the concept is the same (and the switch works the same internally).

Take it all apart and you can just leave the cables attached.
You DON'T want to remove the cables on the other end! It'll take you a good hour.

Your car's power window and lock/unlock rocker switches look the same on the inside, if that helps (I've rebuilt my share!)

And for the cleaning a pencil eraser does wonders!
