White smoke from stock exhaust

So I just picked up my orange 08rr saturday in this miserable San Antonio rain we've been having. It went into the back of my truck and came home to the garage. Stayed there in the garage through the nasty day yesterday too, and today the sun finally came out so I took her for a little spin.

I first noticed this when I picked the bike up Saturday, because even though they had a week to get the thing inspected, it wasnt done when I arrived so the shop guy took it across the parking lot to the jiffy lube. As i watched him ride back, there was white smoke coming from the exhaust but it was cold and rainy so I just figured the engine was cold.

Today, I cranked it up and let it get up to temp and for the first little while, no smoke. After a few minutes, when the actual temp started showing up on the dash, the smoke started coming from the pipe. I figured it would go away shortly, but it kept coming out for about 5 miles worth of riding before it went away. The engine temp heated up to 160-170 degrees fairly quickly but the smoke stayed for a while. I figure its just that same smoke that comes from your car on a cold day when your engine has been sitting, but I wanted to check and make sure. I already dont have full faith in the guy/shop I bought the bike from, so I hope this is nothing.

Its a stock exhaust, but I'm not very familiar with the RR since i've been riding an F4i so maybe this is just an RR thing. Alamo Cycle isnt open on mondays, but I think i'm going to bring it to them to get it checked out.

Thanks for your input/advice ahead of time!

Casey

Having too much oil could cause this, but it would be blue-ish smoke if you were burning oil. It's probably just condensation burning off because of the weather.

Another vote for condensation, which is normal in cool/colder weather...

Yeah, moisture... or you have a blown head gasket, and anti-freeze is making its way into the cylinders. My bike smokes all the time, when its been raining, or cool damp humid mornings

Not so much worried any more, thanks for all the input guys. I figured it was just the typical cold weather thing but I wanted to make sure. I took it to the gym later in the day and there was hardly any smoke, and it went away faster. Still cant wait to get an RT-1 and put it on there!

Kanzen, see ya out there somewhere. I havent seen many orange ones out there so I should stick out

If your exahust smells sweet it is definitely coolent being burnt.

if it is blue smoke and you can notice your oil level going down over a period of time it is oil being burnt.

otherwise it is likely just cold weather and condensation in the exhaust.

Awww thanks a lot vtec, now you got me worried! To be honest, I did feel the exhaust coming out of this bike smelled a little different. I guess I'll be taking a trip over to Alamo to let an actual bike person take a look at it rather than a jiffy lube joe who doesnt normally inspect bikes. Hopefully its nothing....

Why cant people (the selling dealership in this case) take a little pride in their work and make sure that you're getting a good product, even if its used. It cant be that difficult once you get a used bike to check it out, CLEAN it up, and make sure its in top shape before you send it out the door again. I found a few missing fairing screws and a broken fairing piece when i took her apart the other day. Its out of the way (the piece under the silver side panel, sits up under next to the radiator) so its not even noticeable, but still kind of irritating. I guess my standards are too high for what work someone else should do, the dollar is more interesting these days than honesty and hard work. Sorry for ranting...

I'm still really glad I have this bike!!!!
