clarifying if its true or not

ok so i know here most bikes idle at around 1300-1500rpm

but i was back at home in Montenegro and i asked my friend who has quite a lot of bikes and does pro racing in Europe why do all his bikes idle at crazy low rate around 800 sounds as if it is about to shut off.... ??

he said thats how the bike is supposed to idle and when i told him my bikes idle at around 1400 he looked at me like i was retarded...

he clarified the words "ALL BIKES SHOULD IDLE LIKE THIS"

so i didnt want to go argue with him more knowing he knows more than I so im asking u guys ?

is he wrong or not?

My bike idles at around 1700 rmps and it's perfect, wouldn't change a thing.

mine might be around 1100-1300 maybe not even that high maybe when its cold. 14 kinda sounds high to me but idk.

I believe mine is at 1200. sometimes I like to keep it higher, but it normally sits at 1200 or 1300 when it's warmed up.

yea i dont think it can hurt the bike in any way

ow and another thing ghe told me is that to shut off the bike its great to blip the throttle and while the rpm is on 2500 3000 to kill the switch
his justification for it is to leave some gas in the cylinders...

I'm no mechanic but you say he races pro so I'm assuming he has a built motor and idling that low would harm bike AMA race bikes even superstock idled at 2-2500 for the fact that the motor would not starve of oil aftermarket oil pumps



you can't buy happiness but having a racebike is close enough!!!

Most high performance enignes like to idle high. This is due to agressive camshaft profile. The cams are set up to make power in high rpm range.

Cruizers with a milder cam tuned for mid/low range power idle way lower.

Smaller the engine higher the idle...

There are a lot of other things that will affect idle speed but generally speaking...

Your lawnmower should be doing about 3-4 grand at idle, a 120lt V16 diesel in a ship will idle at around 80rpm or lower. cars are generally at 700-950 rpm and bike are 800 for your harley up to 2 grand for your little peewee type bikes...

Besides, have a look at your owners manual under specs and it will say 1300rpm +/- 100rpm. I reckon the engineers at honda have got a pretty good chance of being right...

Bad move, leaving gas in the cylinder is a VERY stupid thing to do as it will thin any oil that is in the cylinder causing it to run back into the sump which in turn causes higher wear on startup.

Besides, our bikes are FI... you kill the switch both the ignition AND the injectors get turned off... no fuel is getting in there anyway...

Tell your mate he is an idiot and to stop giving people stupid and possibly expensive advise.

there is no need to do anything on fuel injected bikes before shutting down or startup. There is no need to blip the throttle on carbureted bikes before shutting down either. A puddle of gas to sit in the combustion chamber is not a good thing. Fuel injectors and carburetors atomize/mix the gasoline with air. That way, it provides proper combustion.

You can prove him wrong, in the service manual it states clearly that our cbrs idle at 1400 +- 100 rpm/s, so everything from 1300-1500 is how it should be

03-06 are 1300 +/- 100 rpm, as per both service and owners manuals.
