Lightbulb Bike Won't Start - Most Common Issues

I was a lurker on the forum for a while before I actually registered, but I'm amazed with the number of "Bike Won't Start" threads. Maybe we can start a "compilation" thread and eventually turn it into a sticky with the most common issues. The majority of the diagnostics steps are similar ("check the..."), so maybe we can just post up the most common no-start problems and the solutions. That should help solve a lot of problems and anyone that needs help beyond the information that is provided can post in a separate thread. I've seen Nico play a role in nearly ALL of the troubleshooting threads, and I'm sure he's a wealth of information but I don't know if he likes writing the same procedures over and over. I will be working on compiling what I think are the most common issues and I'll post them up tomorrow (Sunday = Family/Church day). I just think this will end a bit of "clutter" in the troubleshooting forum and will provide users a central "location" of information instead of having to search through endless threads, only to turn up the same information. Let me know what you all think.

Sounds like a good idea... and I don't mind writing the same stuff, and there are only really a dozen or so things that regularly go bad. The rest are things that show with almost the same fault symptoms, or with slightly different causal factors that help point in the right direction...

Have you seen a Fault finding flow diagram before? If we get a comprehensive enough list together then I can do up a chart.

They look something like this:

They look something like this:
When I was in undergrad, I worked as a tech at Honda and we used similar diagnostic charts. I've been out of the mechanic business so long that I'm really rusty with my diagnostics. I can still R&R (remove and reinstall) like a mofo though

I think what I'm going to do is just compile some links to threads under a specific section. IE: No start -> fuel pump DOES prime; No start --> fuel pump does NOT prime; etc, etc. Just makes it easier for users to look under on thread and see them categorized.

Fair enough... not a bad idea

I'll work on a 'basics of fault finding' and 'electrical fault finding guide' then, that way we should get everything covered.
