Question yoshi RS-5 backfiring & sucking air...

i have had my yoshi rs-5 full system for a while now. i installed it myself considering its not that major.

anyways lately ive been riding with more people (before the accident i had) and noticed none ofthe bikes backfire or pop and crackle as much as mine when i left off the throttle or shift slowly. (but its only happening past around 7-8k RPM)

a major symptom is when i punch it WOT in first or second then let off completely and just barely open the throttle as its decelerating, it sounds like its sucking air and just popping and blabbering constantly til i let off the throttle or get below 7k RPM or so. it also does it while rev matching.

I am NOT running a PC or fuel mapping program other than stock. and i took the exhaust apart completely to seal it with hi temp sealant and it still does it. i guess im just worrying too much? i dont want a warped valve or anything major to go wrong.

With a full system, you certainly need a fuel management system and a proper dyno tune. Also, matching the revs better to the speed and gear you're in will help some. This is something I've got to work on as well.

Why would I try to sell you a power commander? If you put on parts that are going to change the way your vehicle runs, you need to tune it accordingly. That goes for any vehicle; car or bike.

yeah thats what i meant by rev matching and all. well, now that i took a second to comprehend i understand a little better what you mean. but most of the time when my friends and i are together (most of them have cbr 1ks and kawis. there is that one guy on a suzuki... he somehow tends to not be behind us at the next stop bwaahahaha) i keep up by staying in midrange as much as possible. i really do need a PC huh... urg :/

i was just wondering because people always assume its because a PC isnt installed. if its not, i just spend 600 bucks with dyno time to find out it wasnt that. :P i was just wondering if there was a way to tell if it could be the exhaust leaking by the symptoms or not.

Don't be fooled. A PC will not make your bike significantly "faster." It will simply allow your bike to run more smoothly. With the general map from dynojet it will help but not 100%. You'll need an experienced tuner to dial in your air/ fuel ratio. With the bike running too lean, you could burn a hole in the piston. Too rich, you'll foul the plugs.

It shouldn't be that expensive. I talked to my shop awhile ago and they said that they could get it done within 1hr of labor (~70) or even quicker. So I'd assume Price of PC + 1hr labor = way less then $600

well i thought a PCV was about 350 after shipping then any dyno around here is about 125 phr or so. every shop i called is 2 hours labor. :(

I thought the PCV autotuned. Its going to cost you to get it optimized. Get a PCIII (new or used) and you can get the standard map for your system. Get with the guys at pcwatlanta and they'll take good care of you.

You can get a used PC for half that price and just get one of the FREE maps offered from PC's website. You do NOT need to waste your money on a "professional" dyno tune for a street bike. That is a complete crock of **** and waste of money to MAYBE yield a couple more horsepower.

You haven't mentioned what year your bike is, but evidently the PCV (as in PC 5, not PC valve) is "self-tuning." A lot of people who wasted their money on dyno tunings want to make sure other people waste theirs as well. People will claim they can feel the difference, but really it's just the Placebo Effect.
