long brake lever travel

So I have a 2009 cbr600rr non ABS, and went for a 200 mile ride yesterday stopping at various destinations. But about half way through the ride I was noticing that the brake lever had to pulled further back to engage the brakes. The bike has about 3000 miles with no brake work done to it. Could it be air in the lines or do the pins on the caliper need to be lubed?

Sounds like you need to bleed

3000miles brake pads should still be good . If you were riding hard could be a case of " brake fade" change to a race brake fluid and bleed well should fix the prob or just wait till it cools down and it will quit till the next time you get the fluid hot again then it'll do it again.

Any recommendation on fluids? And should I consider upgrading the pads?
