Tachometer no longer working

Ok I've searched alil on this subject and saw that this is quite common. I don't know if this matters but I recently started parking my bike facing the opposite direction of how I use to park at work cuz it's easier to leave but I noticed that the guage cluster is exposed to direct sunlight pretty much the whole time I'm at work. Could this be why my tach no longer functions? When I turn the ket to "on" it doesn't go up and down anymore. Does anyone repair these or is it something easily fixed?

The bike is still functioning correct? I would try a rest by disconnecting the battery for a few mins. Its been rumored that the sun can melt tach but in all my years of riding and heat and leaving the bike I have never experienced it.

Is the Tach the only thing that does not work or is it the whole cluster?
Mine went out once. The 4 solder joints that hold the needle motor to the board came loose.

Yes the bike is running great. I was riding and just happen to look down to see it was super low in the RPM range. I rarely look at the gauge since I shift by sound and speed judgement. Next I reved it to see and it jumped alil but obviously something was up. Eventually it just totally stopped working.

Only the Tach. Everything else functions as it should.

I'm aware something broke, my main question is how to fix it or if anyone can fix it for me?

You can take apart your cluster and check the inside to see if the solder joints came loose or buy a new one.

I have ordered the motor that moves the tach pointer but I'm looking at close to a month until I get them in. Once I get them in I will be able to fix these issues.

Have you repaired clusters before?

Forgot to mention that I'm mechanically inclined and pretty good with electrical "stuff" so to speak. I just didn't wanna mess with soldering on the board because I've seen people destroy them accidentally. I figured someone who does that often would be better suited for the task at hand or if someone has done it and could give some insight.

So does the Tach even do the initial sweep?

Have you checked the combination meter input line?

Disconnect the combination meter line and tap the yellow/green wire and a ground with a multimeter. Start the motor and measure input peak voltage. Peak Voltage should be at 10.5V.

If peak voltage is normal, the combination meter is at fualt

If the measured value is below 10.5, replace the ECM (per Service Manual)

If the value is 0V, check for continuity between the combination meter on the black connector and the grey connector from the yellow/green terminals.

If there is no continuity, check the harness and sub harness for an open circuit.

If there is continuity, your circuit board is faulty. If it is faulty, I would see if I could but a used or even broken gauge cluster on ebay and swap the board with yours.

It does not do the intial sweep anymore. I have a buddy with the same bike. I was gonna swap the clusters to see if his works and if it does I know it's the cluster if it doesn't then I'll do the other tests. My guess it's just the cluster, well hopfully it is just that.

If you want to ship me the cluster sometime I'll check it out. If I can't get anywhere with it then I'll ship it back no charge.
