Coolant leak at 5600 miles

I took my 2007 cbr600rr to the shop to get all the fluids changed and they found some dry coolant under the water pump. They said it was from a seal from the water pump and the whole thing has to be replaced.
Seems kinda odd that the water pump has to be replaced at 5600 miles.
Is there a way I could be sure that the water pump has to be replaced and that it isnt coming from a loose hose or something?

try replacing the washer behind the drain bolt on the water pump. I noticed the same thing on my bike from when i changed the fluids last time i didn't replace that washer.

they are just trying to rip you off... if what rlee said doesnt work try removing the water pump and cleaning the surface on it and the mating surface on the engine and sealing it up with silicon.
