Cold weather and detonation?

Not trying to start a debate over which octane is best...

Can anyone tell me if cold weather is more or less likely to affect engine knock? I use 87 octane (as prescribed by the owners manual) in my '05 600RR and noticed a lot of knocking on the way to work this morning. I've been using the 87 octane for months and have never noticed this before (even in the hottest days of summer).

Maybe you have a bad batch of gas. You should actually have a better burn in colder weather. I would think that would decrease your chance of getting detonation. Cooler air is more dense therefore more air crammed into the chamber therefore better combustion.

Thanks! That's what I figured. I ran it dry and filled it up with Super. We'll see how it goes now...

If you're like me and buy gas at the same station all the time, make sure you bust their ass on selling you bad ****. I sure would... and have.
