oil leak

ok well i had put the new generator cover on and it leaks, very very small amount,
my question is.... how important is it to get all of the old gasket stuff off b4 you can put the new permedex ultra black rtv silicon gasket maker on

i tried but couldnt fit a razor in alot of the places, there wasnt much but i couldnt get at alot of it, and the places i could get at with the razor it didnt come off very well at all. hardly any came off come to think of it.

nex time im going to lay a thicker bead down cuz last time i used a very thin one.

any other suggestions when doing this?
thanks

it is very important that the new gasket fits perfect onto the cover. doesnt matter how long it takes you have to do everything that you can do to get the old gasket off completely. Where the generator wire goes through the cover you need to lay a bit of rtv over that so that it seals perfectly. the gasket is so thin that you have to have it perfect or else you will have to do it over. If you dont know how to do it play it safe and take it to a shop and pay someone to do it. Just take your time its not that bad
