Clutch engagement point...

I want to have it a little closer to the clipon. But the adjusters only adjust freeplay. How can I adjust the engagement point?

Pazzo, or CRG levers.

Would that work on an '04 bike?

I don't see why not, my Pazzo's were the same for my '05 on the clutch side. I would double check with CRG to be sure though.

But this will just change the lever height. I'm not convinced yet that it'll fix my problem.

You still adjust the freeplay with the cable adjuster. The red tab on the lever adjusts the distance the lever is from the bar. You will be able to bring the lever closer to the bar without having a loose clutch cable.
