how to test gauge?

When I bought my bike used i was handed another gauge that supposedly came off my bike and the one on it was replaced with an 05 gauge. My bike is an 04 and I'm thinking that it has way more miles on it then my gauge states. Any way of turning it on without undoing the one hooked up to my bike right now? I'd like to check and see how many miles are on it to get an accurate guess as to how many are actually on my bike.

Its pretty easy to hook up on your bike. It just has a plug on the back that you have to plug in. If it something you really have to know you could switch it and then just turn on the key to see the milage.
