ca taillight issue

for some reason my tail light wont light up unless i pull the brake lever in. i swear i remember it always staying on before and acting as a running light. everything works as it should (brake light, front and rear turn signals) so i dont think it is a wiring problem. i tried adjusting the switch behid the right rearset but that did nothing.
