Bike Will Not Start..

Hi guys. Finally have my entire 2008 CBR600RR reassembled, not including the fairings. I had the engine completely pulled out of the frame this winter, so all wires, coolant hoses, fuel lines were at one point pulled apart. (Air in fuel lines??)

Everything is now put back together, but when trying to start the bike the starter motor just keeps going and going. It all sounds normal, but the engine simply won't start.

I have 3/4 tank of fresh gas, the injectors are working and I can hear the fuel pump priming.

Currently I have the fuel tank unbolted for easier access to the wiring beneath.

The only variable which I added to the bike was a Power Commander 5. It is stock, out of the box, and has no map on it. So the bike should run normally with it installed.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like the gears that your starter is supposed to turn are not lined up correctly. Have you taking the case apart lately?

Yes it was apart. I will check to see that it is lined up. I can smell fuel from the exhaust pipe after trying to start it.

dude this just happened to me a month ago with my PCV. I plugged my PCV into my computer and it started right up. If i disconnected the USB cord the bike died. Turned out that my PCV had a bad internal ground. I'm not saying its the same problem but easy enough to try out. Bad part is taking the PCV back out if it is bad. Let me know what happens.

Turns out I am not getting any spark... time to take off the air box and upper injectors all over again. Will report back.

Hey again everyone. Bike now sits with completely stock electrical, PCV disconnected, though it was never fully installed or on the bike while it was up and running. No shops will take the bike in until end of season because of the complexity of the situation. No voltage coming from the crankshaft position sensor (CKP), so I will be buying a new one. Unfortunately, I can't for the life of me find one online for my 08 600RR. Anyone know where to look?

I really can't seem to find it on here, which should compile all possible parts.

No other leads in terms of why there is no spark.

Did you remove the crank position sensor? If so make sure it is correctly oriented.

Did you unplug the coils individually or unplug the coil harness?

Are all your grounds solidly connected?

There are way too many variables here.

If you can hear the injectors firing then the crank sensor is working correctly, and as wibbly said, it's not too hard to put it in backwards.

First thing I'd be checking if you've no spark on any coil is that they are getting power (they are negative switched by the ECU) cause if the injectors are working and the plugs aren't that's pretty much all there is that can go wrong.

After that, check every electrical connection starting with your grounds.

How do I verify all connections are grounded properly? And how do I verify that the coils themselves are receiving power? Thank you Nico and Wibbly.

The coil harness plugs into a 6 pin flat connector. In that connector there are two whites I believe. Those are the hots. Check for 12 volts there.

Well guys, through several threads, 8 months of no riding, depression, anger, and hopelessness... The motor was put back together, and I eventually determined the Camshaft Position Sensor was faulty. Bike runs and things are looking good.

I'd like to thank every single person that read through my posts.

Currently waiting for PAIR blocks to arrive so I can install them, put the airbox and gas tank back on. Then I just need to put the fairings back on, and I'll be on the road!
