That seems high, my bike barely burns any oil at all. That is like 1/3 of the oil in your engine.....

haha ya a motor (4 stroke gas at least) is never designed to consume oil. If youre losin oil its either leakin out or burin. both = no bueno. seein any spots under it in the garage? any blue smoke comin outta the pipe upon cold start up or on decelleration?

A colleague at work races his GSXR750 and runs mobil1 syn. He's complained often about excessive oil usage, just keep on top of it. If you think it really is excessive take it to the dealer and get it checked out.

yeah, it smokes. No leaks at all. My friend is a Honda mechanic at the local shop and he said don't worry about it. It might go, it might not. He said it's pretty common. The bike runs strong still too. ]

I guess if it goes, I'll just buy a used engine or something. I tell you, it puts a bad taste in my mouth with Honda. Next time i'm pretty sure i will buy something else. My old 03 zx6r didn't burn a single drop of oil. I've has 3 cbr 600rr's and one of them used a lot of oil too, although not as much as this one.

if ur burnin the oil, the most common causes are worn out rings, scored sleeves and/or bad valve stem seals. All from abuse such as not lettin the bike warm up, etc ... all repairs are going to be pricey and/or time consuming so u might as well ride it till it blows up haha then just pick up another motor

How the bike was treated in the first 100-600 miles is probably the cause.

^ ya i forgot to mention how the motor was broken in would be a huge factor. Although, recently i've been hearing about this new technique to break the bike in: really push the motor hard and rev high for the first few hundered miles to make the rings seat real tight in the sleeves ... i dunno if i buy it tho ... i broke my 954 in perfectly when i bought it, kept RPM's under 5k untill 500 miles then under 8k untill 1000 miles. 22k miles later it still runs strong and i have never seen the slightest bit of smoke come outta that exhaust pipe ...

Don't buy it. It's all subjective. There's no way to prove his theory because once a motor is broken in, how do you go back and break it in the other way to compare? You can't. You have to rebuild it and now it's a different motor. The only thing the thoery is good for is proving that you gain HP as the rings are seating. That's why they see the numbers go up when they're watching the dyno. You could do the same thing driving the bike around town. The only difference is the amount of time it takes. So for him to stand up and declare that his way makes more HP is total BS. The manufacturers have decades of engineering experience on breaking in motors. I'll listen to what they have to say on this subject. Besides, have you seen what Honda has for requirements on our bike? It's like 2 sentences. Don't do hard roll-ons and vary the rpms. It says nothing about keeping it under "8krpm" for "X" amount of miles.

^^ just stay away from puttin heavy loads on the motor during break in (hard accelleration or even openin the throttle up real wide in low RPMs). ya good, i was hopin the technique i knew and preformed in the past was correct all along. If you think about the reasoning, the "gental" break in just makes more sense. it's science! cant argue with science.

actually its even more vague than that. it says "avoid full throttle starts and rapid acceleration." lol in other words just baby it for a while.

edit: and i think it says for the first 300 miles or something
