Waterpump Sometimes Leak???

I was on my way for a nice ride with a group. Rode 45 mins. to a destination before starting our spiriting ride, pull into a gas station and boom I'm leaking coolant from the water pump area.... I get some paper towels wipe everything down and it looked like it was coming out of the stator cover..... Limped back home took off all the fairings drained the coolant, took the stator cover off. No coolant in the stator cover, put water into the radiator and couldn't get the bike to leak anymore... I'm so confused as to wtf is happening. I let the bike idle all the way to 230 and couldn't get it to leak. I replaced the clamps on the rubber lines connecting to the water pump just in case. Has anyone ever heard of a water pump leaking sometimes and than other times not? I don't want to blow 150 if it's not necessary.
