Quickshifter and Neutral

Sometimes when the bike is pulling in sixth it jumps into neutral. It might be my boot touching the shift pedal because it doesn't happen everytime and when I pay special attention to avoid touching the shift pedal it never happens.

But why does it just shift into Neutral?

Its not neutral, its a false neutral.

Basically the shift dog for 5th and 6th gear is engaged in neither of them.

I understand it's a false neutral but is it normal for this to happen just because I'm inadvertently touching the shift peg and 'semi' activating the shift sensor or is there a problem with the dogs/transmission?

I wouldn't say its normal. You're saying that the bike is falling out of 6th? Like you're in 6th and it drops out? Because if that's the case you'd have to move the pedal towards 5th and that won't activate your qs.

If its falling out of gear its because it was never fully engaged. This could be a result of being lazy with the shifter, too short a kill time on your qs, or a bent shift fork

Well it doesn't happen all the time.
My QS doesn't allow for kill time adjustability, so I guess I have a bit more experimenting to do with the shift peg. Are there any other tests I can perform to see if I have a bent shift fork? I'm never too aggressive with it so not sure how it would come about.

Chances are you just aren't being deliberate enough with the shifter.

The qs shouldn't cut on downshifts so it won't cut if you accidentally touch the lever.

There isn't a very good non-intrusive test for a bent shift fork unfortunately.

I agree with Wibbly that it sounds like 5th or 6th was never full engaged and that's why it's going into neutral.

This happened to me. I adjusted the point where the shift rod connects to transmission to make my efficient use how my foot moves when shifting. Check to make sure the shift rod attachment point is giving you a full range of motion to engage the gear.

Yep used to happen to me a lot from 6th falling back to 5th.

Fixed it by a proper positive action when going to 6th and make sure you push that **** lever all the way up.

Wibbly run the Factory Shift Star Pro kit. That would also help with more positive engagement.

I was going to get it, but then it stopped happening to me.
