Exclamation Headlights went out, Please help

I have an '05rr. I went out for gas the other night and everything was normal then after filling up I restarted the bike and my lights )low and hi) did not come on. I really didn't even notice until I got into my neighborhood when doesn't have many streetlights. Luckily the gas station is right outside the development but is well lit. I flipped the high-beam switch over and over but nothing. I got to my driveway, turned off my bike then restarted and lights came on just fine. I took opened the switch housing and everything appears normal, no corrosion no loose connections. Since the incident I haven't been able to reproduce the experience. My biggest fear is that I will end up riding far from my home and my lights will go out and not come back on. Has anyone had this experience? Any thoughts?

Do a search for 'ground box'

It's a fairly common failure point on your year bike and will cause what you're describing.

Also take a look at the solder joints in the kill switch. I've got an '05 as well and twice the solder joint popped inside the switch that cut power to both headlights. I'll mention the kill switch again to make sure there's no confusion with the headlight switch.

I had the same issue going across a pitch black bridge with my old 05. Both lights went out on me and left me shitting my pants until my eyes adjusted for complete darkness.

Had to soldered the kill switch connection 3 times with the 3rd adding a hot glue gun to keep everything in place. Never had a issue after using the glue gun as a extra measure especially which all the vibrations your handlebars see.

Check the wires by touching them... I had the same thing happen to me and when I looked at the wiring it all looked good. put everything back together just to have it happen again.. When I got it all apart I touched the wires and found the wire loose.. Resoldered it and no issues afterwards
