extreme high idle

So while continuing my rehabilitation of this neglected bike I've decided to tackle the weird idle issues I've had with this bike for a while.

Currently it idles at about 4-5k until the wax unit opens up, then it will drop down to about 2.5-3k ish. I've backed the idle knob all the way out to the point where it isn't even touching the flap. It doesn't seem like there is enough threads on top of the wax unit to lengthen the throw on it either. How can I back this idle speed off even further?

A bad vacuum leak could cause this. I would try deleting PAIR and EVAP systems if you haven't already, then plug the airbox holes. Start the bike, check for vacuum leaks.

Are you sure the throttle cable is adjusted correctly?
Did this just start out of the blue or...?

I'll have to give this a shot. I'm not 100% sure about the throttle cable adjustment, it seems right at the grip. I have the perscribe amount of play.

As for how I got started on this, back in early 2015 I had the valves done and the shop admitted (after doing the work) that they don't really know honda's and had to do some findangling to get it to run right. Least that's vaguely what I remember... It never quite ran right, under steady throttle it would randomly bog or cut out, it did this before and after the valves but I never had time to troubleshoot it. Then about a month after the valve work, I had to deploy and as bad luck would have it, it started making a loud racket. I thought I was going to have to take the engine apart and redo the valves. Recently I learned in another thread (https://www.600rr.net/vb/62-troublesh...dly-sound.html) that that sound was the cam chain. Somewhere before me, they changed out the CCT for a manual one that they didnt locktight the lock nut or something and It had backed out.

once that was fixed I did my chain and sprockets and I cranked up the bike and the RPM's just ran right up to 6K. Now I'm here troubleshooting that fun. I genuinely think the last shop intentionally set the Idle RPM high so it would run.
