Bike: 2007 CBR600rr
Got into an accident with the bike and hitting the starter only results in a click. The dashboard reboots and no start.
Here's what I've already tried:
-Charging the battery
-Direct 12v to battery
-Replace oil
-Checked relay fuse
-Direct 12v to starter (would make a clunk then stop)
-Push start the bike going around 10-12mph (rear wheel would lock)
I've linked a video of my push start attempts.
Any help is much appreciated
Sounds like something is stopping the engine turning over.
I'd be weary of doing any more push starts until you figure it out as you may damage it further.
Can you tell us which side and how the bike fell on? This might help us develop some theories about what is wrong.
My thinking is that the starter clunks once as it attempts to turn the crank as it engages but something is locking it up.
I assume you're starting it in neutral with the clutch in and still only getting a single click. I dont think the gearbox is locked up as it only locks up once you release the clutch and bring the crank into play.
Bike fell on its left side: Stator, gear lever, clutch - damaged in someway
Right side damage: Cam chain, cam chain tensioner, clutch
Did you notice anything wrong with the oil change? i.e. flakes/bits of metal in the old oil
Oil looked good. Bike flipped end over end then hit a tree so 360 damage. I'm going to try and remove the starter and see if it will turn when not connected to the bike.
Here are two photos.
I'll try the spark plug thing later in the week.
Really lost with this, new to motorcycles still.
Im alright from the crash luckily.
Thanks for replying Recon. Pics are coming through a little small. Do you have a bigger version?
Looks like the sliders took a whack. Is it possible they have twisted and pushed something into the block in such a way that it interferes with the engine?
Your making sure the motor will rotate freely. From the video you posted trying to pop start it, it's behaving as though something is internally holding the motor from rotating. By taking the spark plugs out you won't be fighting the compression stroke while rotating the crankshaft by hand. Do that and report back!
Here is where the cap is located on the right hand side of the engine.
This is what you'll find beneath it.
The end of the crank. Rotate this bolt and feel for any resistance (making sure the spark plugs have been removed).
So I attempted to take out the spark plugs this morning but failed to do so. I dont have the correct tools to get them out and i spent around 2 hours trying to get one out. What are my options from here? The engine is most likely seized so should i buy a new engine and have a mechanic swap it out for me or rebuild the engine?
UPDATE:
The bike is still not running. I couldn't take the spark plugs out but a friend said i could still try to spin the crank which i did, It spins with resistance (since i did not unplug the sparkplugs) but the bike still won't start. I've linked a very short video showing what happens when i hit the starter button. I wrecked in April and hardly have any time to really work on the bike so its been a really long process.
I forget what the original problem was, but when your turning the crank by hand, the starter should NOT be engaging like it was. Remove the starter and inspect, report back.
BIKE IS RUNNING!
So a friend fixed it for me by spinning the rear wheel backwards and going through all the gears. There was oil in the cylinders that was blocking the chambers from compressing.
I tried getting the plugs out but ran into a stripped 10mm bolt holding the pair system in place above the sparkplugs. Tried to get it out but had to call it a day because it was getting late. I tried everything I could with limited tools and limited time. Although I didn't update this thread as much as I should've, that doesn't mean I skipped over the advice given to me by you guys.
Rookies make rookie mistakes, what else do you expect. I dont have anyone holding my hand telling me how to fix my problems so I really appreciate all the advice I get here.
Cool, I haven't torn this bike down that far, a couple of bikes I had in the past did not employ this design, sorry for the bad info
