Honda OEM part numbers.. "replaces"?

Hey guys, just wondering if you guys have dealt with buying new oem parts and seeing parts with "new" part numbers? they'll specifically say "xxx-xxxx-xxx replaces xxx-xxxx-xxx". Would that mean its newly styled/different at all or just that its more universal among more bikes? I remember something similar happening when i was trying to buy bar ends for my 250r and the stock ones on my bike were gloss black but the only oem parts to buy were matte black(no color code).

It just means they’ve replaced one part number with another. They will work for the application, but as you said may have a finish difference.

Or be a new, better design; without seeing both parts, you don’t know.

What you do know is it will function correctly.
