Bike Starts-Doesnt Stay Running

I just bought a 2005rr that got dumped. The bike will stay running and you can rev it as long as you hold down the starter button. Soon as you let off it stops, as if you pushed the kill switch. Tried wiring the red/white and green wires together from the two different harnesses to see if it was the BAS but still does the same thing.

The only other thing is when you turn the key to ON the fuel pump DOES NOT prime........

There was one sensor unplugged (grey plug into black plug) on the left side of the bike just below the frame. Barely plugged it back in because its very hard to access... not sure what that sensor is or why it was unplugged.... the sensor is mounton the upper left side of the engine at the same height as the injectors.....

Could a relay be bad ???

Any idea's ?????

I'll take some pics, been really busy the last two days... Gonna keep going through stuff today... whats the best way to check the fuel pump itself..?

Update- Red/Black wires on fuel pump i have voltage but not on the yellow/red?? I assume thats the fuel pumps ground??

Connections good getting 12 volts at fuel pump connection even though the pump doesnt prime. Since the bike starts im gonna go ahead and replace the fuel pump and go from there. I have a spare ECU and it did the same things as its been doing. Already checked the Relays..

the tach does a sweep and the FI light comes on after i try starting it and then it stays on. Took apart the run/stop switch and everything was Kosher. Also my headlights do not come on but my left blicker is also distroyed so i dont know if its part of the wiring loop??

need this baby running, its too nice to just look pretty in the garage...

That sounds like the throttle position sensor, but That should not cause your fuel pump not to prime.

Yeah the TPS was unplugged but I plugged it back in and there wasnt any difference... if you unplug it on a cbr and try to start it what happens ??

I dunno, I have never tried it. Are you sure all your fuel injectors are plugged in. Maybe the bike had a power commander on it and the guy took it off and that's why the TPS was unplugged. Perhaps he didn't hook up the lower injectors or something.

I don't think so, the bike is bone stock and this kid tryed to figure out why it wouldn't start but he just bought a brand new bike instead... so he took stuff apart and looked and thats as far as he got. He probably couldnt get it plugged back in, that connection is a pain to plug in.

well just put a fuel pump in and it wasn't it, also took apart the whole keyswitch and that was fine also... I think it's time for a pro.....

there are 2 relays on the left side of the bike. The relays are identical and at least one of them is used for the start system to keep the bike running. You could try swapping the relays and see if the problem goes away.

well I am out of ideas. Without a schematic I cannot offer any more suggestions except if your fuel pump is not priming and has power, then it is missing ground. It should have constant power as long as the bike is on. It gets the ground through relays when you turn the bike on to prime the injectors, then it should get constant ground once the bike is started. Try grounding the ground wire to the frame and see if the bike stays running.

try ur fuses for one. check for shorts cus some times when u put the tank back into the frame it rips and pinches wires. ive had it happen a few times. also try unplugging ur computer and disconnect ur battery and then reconnect it to refresh the computer. if that still doesnt work ill have the answer for u tomarrow when i go to work.

Weird that the TPS has been unplugged, are you sure that someone hasn't moved it, say when adding or removing a PC111. That's what happened to my 04 bike when i made the stupid mistake of unscrewing the TPS while putting the PC111 on. The bike wouldn't keep running unless the idle speed was wound right up, in which case it ran really rough and drank fuel, exhaust fumes stinking.

Luckily I could see the old screw marks on the throttle bodies and was able to reposition it easily, now all is well and good.

Just wondered that if you bought the bike used and someone had been lazy while removing the TPS connection whilst taking the PC off

I've got a bike mechanic who's a friend of a friend looking at the bike. He seems to think there's a short/pinched wire... went and dropped the bike off... hopefully that's it.. gonna call me in a few days...
