Bike won't go past 10k RPM???

My bike sat for about 8 months when I went to the desert (military)...I didn't put fuel stabilizer or anything in the tank before I left. I ran the old fuel out and filled the tank with new gas but now when I accelerate hard, the RPMs get to approx 10k and then sputters out. It gets to 10k then drops to 9k and the RPMs just keep jumping up and down between 9-10k in 1st and 2nd gear but will not go past.

Any tips would be appreciated.

fuel turn to jelly or jello as u americans call it after a period of time, it could be blocking your injectors. just cause u drained the tank, it doesn't mean ur bike had no fuel left in it.

It sounds like the regulator rectifier...Mine did the EXACT same thing.

it is the honda saftey feature the bike knows when your riding is rusty and wont let ya use full power........hahha , jokes

t could be the secondary injectors, not firing

Thanks Butter, I will check into that. So all you had to do was replace the rectifier and that was it? Not a problem afterwards?

Yes, it is a tease to actually start getting into the full power but only to have it die out at the best part. It felt like I was a two pump chump.....spuuuuuge

Go to the autoparts store and buy a bottle of Chevron Techron.

Put half of the bottle into the tank with at least 2 gallons of fresh gas...

Run through the entire tank and then put the other half of the bottle and fill the tank again... run it through that and then see if the problem is fixed.

The Techron **** is the ONLY fuel system cleaner that has actually passed any meaningful fuel system detergent tests.......

I use it on my bikes at least every 10 refills just to be on the safe side.

do they have much problems with the rectifier?

how much does one cost?

and how could you check it without going and buying one?

would mine be bad with 7,000 miles?

i can't see a reg rec causing reving isuses, as all they do is regulate the voltage coming of your stator. if it's a reg rec your battery should not be charging correctly either, to check the reg rec measure the voltage coming out it. it should read somewhere in the 16 volt vacinity.

Most of the "My bike won't rev past 10k rpm" threads are due to fuel starvation. Pull the tank and check the fuel pump assembly and check the fuel filter and screen. If the filters can't be cleaned then it could be the fuel pump itself. You can also pay for a dyno run (@$30) and see what the A/F ratio is doing at 10k rpm. If it start to lean out then you know it's starving for fuel.

That's what I though too so I was just going to try the fuel cleaner first then work from there. I just bought the Chevron Techron and will try that out. If that doesn't fix the problem I will check the voltage, then start pulling everything. Thanks for all of the input guys, I appreciate it!

Well when my bike FIRST did the "won't rev past 10k" deal @ 9k miles...I took it to the dealer and they replaced the regulator rectifier and it was fine. 7k later it did the exact same no revving deal and the dealer replaced the regulator rectifier again.....so far I am at 22k on my 06 with no more rectifier problems yet...but I got the extended warranty so I am not worried.

The reg rec costs 175 from the dealer, but yeah...just check the voltage. The reason it could be the reg rec is that since it does control the routing of electricity, it could not be routing the the correct amount of juice at higher rpm's...it happens.

I tried the fuel cleaner two bottles nothing happened, and the problem with my bike it comes on and off, after hard riding for about 20 to 30 mins maintaining 11 to 13 rpm where the problem starts to show, it wont go past even 7k rpm then turn it off let it rest for a couple of mins and its fine again ride it for another 10 mins at 11k to 13k rpm constant there it goes again. Any suggestion how to solve this, I really need help guys.....

Yeah, I would vote for some electrical issue. Do you have a service manual ? Check the voltage output on the RR per the instructions in the service manual. Should be like 14.5 volts at 5000 rpm or so (thats what it is on some other hondas).

I very seriously doubt its a spoiled fuel issue. 8 months is not even close to long enough to turn fuel into jelly. Heck, I have a lawn mower that I use 2 year old gas in all the time.

Same thing for me after the Chevron Techron...the RPMs got up to redline but after riding for 2 hours, it all started again but sometimes I couldn't even go past 7-8k RPMs. The bike would just start bouncing the RPMs btwn 6-7k at full throttle.

My next move is to check the voltage and most likely replacing the reg rec.

I think we have the same problem, my nxt move is to check and clean the fuel pump also replace it if necessary, i already check the voltage at idle it reads 14.1 volts, at 5k rpm 14.3 volts i think i dont have any prob with the rectifier anyways ll let you inform every step of the way,,,

Im done checking the fuel pump, found out the strainer has alot of carbon deposit i clean it, tomorrow ill ride it for an hour to see if theres improvement.
also i drained the coolant and filled with prestone coolant.

If you used regular antifreeze your going to mess up your water pump. you should only use Honda coolant or water wetter as I believe that you do not want anything that contains silicants or something like that. I know car antifreeze will cause deteriation of the seals in the water pump and is corrosive in aluminum. Do a google search for "motorcycle antifreeze silicants" and you will find a plethora of info

Thanks for the info, i made a research and found out that prestone coolant that i used is silicants and phosphate free, and its rubber and aluminum friendly. I cant find any honda motorcycle antifreeze coolant here in our country(philippines) because temp here is too hot even on christmas season.

The 2nd fuel injector is supposed to kick in around 5500 rpms..

If it only get's to 10k rpm's, it really sounds like the 2nd fuel injector isn't working for shiz. Does it run good until it get's to 10k or does it start to decrease in performance after 5500 rpm's?
