Apple/Android TV box

Just curious for the people that have one and what are their thoughts on them? What one are you using?

I bought my wife the Amazon Fire box. Works great, but we're already Prime users.

I've never looked into that one. Guessing it basically does the same thing. Is yours locked or unlocked?

I have the super android tv box, a guy at work dishes them out as his little side hustle.

all I can really say is I have had no issues. it turns your tv basically into a smart tv and all the movies and tv series in the tv addons section you can think of!

Had a second gen Apple TV once and it sucked beyond suck. Same experience with Western Digital.
My brother bought a no-name Android HDMI dongle from DX.com and it worked great. Interface was similar to an Android smart phone. It played HD content flawlessly. And it's cheap.

I personally prefer to build HTPCs but I'm thinking of buying an Android dongle for the bedroom and hooking it up to a monitor.

[edit] Btw, if you have an old Android smart phone laying around you can turn it into a media player by buying a MHL-HDMI cable.

I own a Google Chromecast which is just the streaming device but I love it!
An app called AllCast allows you to mirror your phones screen onto your TV.
An app called showbox allows you to watch almost every TV Show/Movie you can possibly think of. Pandora/Your music library/Youtube all that right onto your TV.

For 30 bucks I couldn't be happier.

Same, I use the Chromecast for Netflix and the putting the occasional YouTube video up on my TV. Wasn't aware of those other apps though, going to check those out.

I bought my two units at a local Wal-Mart. I believe they have them at Target (I don't think you guys in Canada have those) But yeah any major retail store should have them.
Check a Best Buy if available near you?

Wow, who needs cable/directv when you have these! Anyone care to school me on this? Haven't owned a cable box in over 10 years, and the the lady and I are moving in soon and she wants to get cable... I'm not spending all that money to have it sit there and not be used.

Streaming devices or smart TV's essentially all do the same thing. As long as you have wifi you can pretty much watch anything on your TV. Nowadays there is a website or app for almost ANYTHING. News, sports, music, tv shows, movies, etc... these streaming devices take the need of a cable box and bring you everything you need.
As long as you have a Netflix, hulu, hbo go or whatever you may watch or need, you are all set to go.

Keep in mind when streaming online it eats up data so make sure you have unlimited or a high amount of data

Not sure about the other devices, but the Chromecast requires WiFi to use it so you won't have to worry about using up your data.

Wifi still connects to your Internet unless your on someone else's Wifi. So unless you have unlimited or lots of data You gotta be careful.

yes you gotta have unlimited data or getting a tv box is essentially useless. the money you spend on overage charges you could just get proper cable. but then your restricted to local channels only.

Assuming you're streaming your content. My ISP allows unlimited bandwidth between 2am - 8am or something like that so I do all my torrenting then.

As others have said, cannot beat the Chromecast. You can buy a few (for each TV) for the price of an Apple TV or Roku.

Apple TV and Chromecast owner over here. My GF isn't the most tech-savvy person in the world, so the Apple TV is easy enough for her to use.

We don't have cable and do most of our watching on either Netflix or Hulu Plus.
