The Ultimate CBR

Ok, so it's not really a CBR, but I still thought it was funny that newly announced Moto2 team MZ is running lightly modified 09-10 CBR600RR race glass. I guess it's appropriate, considering the official engine of the series.

Forgive me if it's a repost!

I don't understand either but if you look the picture closely, the swingarm looks different in my perspective and I bet the engine is not a CBR and has a CBR fairings on it...my guess...

maybe it's just distortion, but it almost looks like a 250 in that last pic...

Because all of the bikes in the Moto2 class must use a prototype chassis. The only thing CBR about this bike is the engine and fairings other than that the frame, swingarm, etc are prototype.

It's not ANY CBR at all. Yes, engine is made by Honda, but it's not related to CBR600RR engine. It's a prototype.

The ultimate CBR600RR is Eugene Laverty's WSBK Supersport CBR600RR. 145whp...oh my.

Moto 2 is the "formula" or "class" that is replacing the 250 GP class for the 2010 season and onward (hopefully).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_P...ng#Moto2_class

It is a 600cc 4 stroke motor supplied by Honda that is based on the CBR motor, with some obvious enhancements. I remember reading that their goal was a reliable 150hp. Who knows. The motors will be sealed and delivered to the teams, the periodically recollected, rebuilt by a third party, then given back to the teams.

aside from the motor, the rest of the bike is essentially a total prototype design from each manufacturer. The chassis and swingarm cannot be production parts, much like all GP racing has mandated for a while now. you will see different designs on a lot of the bikes entered. It just so happens that the MZ team has decided to, apparently, pay homage to the bike that arguably shares the closest relation to the racebike...our dear little RR, by using, or at least testing with, commonly available race bodywork that you or I could more that likely buy.

I think this is fantabulous. I can point at the TV and tell dumb people that my bike is raced in a GP class!!!!

I will forever refuse to recognize the limits that others would place on what I can, and cannot do.

No problem, happy to inform.

You don't have to watch motorcycle racing and get all into points standings and rider preferences and all super in to the techy side of things to enjoy it. i think it intimidates some people. There's nothing wrong with watching it just to watch some of the best riders out there do their thing. It's just fun!

I will forever refuse to recognize the limits that others would place on what I can, and cannot do.
