Post MotoGP Le Mans 2010 (SPOILER)

Last year was crazy with all the bike changes. Fun to see how things will turn out this year.

SPEED is showing the MotoGP race at 8am Eastern on Sunday the 23rd. There are no live events being show before or after, so hopefully it won't be preempted.

Oh, and yeah, the Moto2 race isn't being shown until 1pm Eastern on Tuesday the 25th.

If you can only find Quatar and Jerez, its because those are the only races that have taken place.

Very dominant race from Lorenzo with all the action back in 8th. I can't wait for Mugello to see what happens there.

Couldn't get here early enough to start a thread, but I will weigh in on the results:

- Started off pretty exciting. Rossi got a GREAT start to be able to put Dani and Lorenzo behind him.
- Hayden had a GREAT start too, getting right up into 3rd place, putting Stoner behind him.
- Stoner got him back at the left heading down the hill, but he promptly slid the rear out and crashed. That's two crashes in three races and his championship hunt is disappearing rapidly, especially at how Jorge is going.
- Jorge had the pace all weekend long and really, it was going to be him vs. Stoner if Stoner could have kept it on two.
- After Jorge put that MASTERFUL pass on Rossi, he was gone. No one was going to challenge him. At that point, the race started spreading out and it got boring.
- Basically, the exciting part was getting to see who was going to go third. Dani had been there pretty much all race long. And just like in Jerez, he was pipped at the very last lap. Dovizioso got him at the first chicane and basically, Dani was chasing him down. Props to Dani for riding defensively for the 2-3 laps preceding that.
- All along, Hayden was putting in his best laps of the race and kept getting faster while everyone else was getting slower. Once Dovi passed Dani, Dani had to fend off Hayden, who was charging on him.
- Three corners from the finish, Dani pushed it too deep and went wide. Hayden went underneath and picked up the scraps for 4th.

Great race in the beginning and end. Middle was boring.

1. Lorenzo
2. Rossi
3. Dovizioso
4. Hayden
5. Pedrosa
6. Melandri
7. DePuniet
8. Barbera
9. Espargaro
10. Simoncelli
11. Aoyoma
12. Edwards
13. Kallio

Spies crashed early. Capirossi crashed also. Who am I missing?

Jacked up! I just watched the Stoner interview and the interviewer was like, "Nicky doesn't seem to be having the same issues that you're experiencing, are you sharing data?" Stoner replies, "In all deference to Nicky, my lap times are a bit faster than he is. When he starts going as fast as I am, he'll likely experience the same issues I'm having." To which my thought was, "Stoner, you qualified in 4th place, running a 1'33.824. Nicky qualified in 5th place, running a 1'33.845. Just two-hundredths slower. So, you're saying, if Nicky were going two-hundredths faster, he'd be folding the front like you?" I had been growing a little respect for Stoner for a bit, especially how he's been speaking up Nicky since joining the team... but this bit of excuses and whinery, throwing Nicky under the bus like that... Man, Stoner just lost a bunch of respect points in my book. Jacked up.

I don't see Stoner being in MotoGP next year, or even finishing this season if Ducati decides to fire him.

With his last year "mystery" illness that was never proven, and now his constant blaming of the front end, either he just can't hold the pace without pushing it beyond his limits, or he's lost his love of the sport. He clearly lost the rear in T6, and to see multiple interviews (written and video) of him saying he lost the front end, BS flags need to be waved everywhere on him.

It does look like he's just frustrated and lost that fire. Like if everything isn't going 100% right for him, he's pitching a fit, throwing up arms and this, that and the other. I think he gets one more ride with Honda, just a loyalty to him from Suppo. Dovi already has demonstrated he's got more gumption than Dani. They'll have two safe bets for title contention, even if I think on the same machine, Dovi is just about as good as Hayden is. That being said, Stoner is clearly inconsistent this season, thus far. He's high one moment, low another. He's either blazing or he's flickering.

I know the Crazy Season hasn't started yet, but with Rossi wanting to stick with Yamaha and Jorge wanting to stick with Yamaha, I think they'll end up staying together. Honda will court Stoner or stick with Dani. If they pick up Stoner, Dani will be relegated to a satellite team, perhaps Suzuki. There's no way Ducati will pick up Dani, nor do I think that Dani can even ride the slow transitioning Ducati. Ducati will court Jorge, but I think in the end, Jorge will stick with Yamaha, especially if he wins the title on it.

But at the end of the day, if Stoner tanks this season, Honda will not support Suppo in picking him up. And you'll be right. He'll be gone.

A lotta if's, but that's similar to how I see everything playing out, though even if Stoner doesn't tank, I really don't see Honda backing Suppo if he wants to bring him over. Honda prefers to make the excuses, not having the riders make them. I'm surprised they put up with Dani being injured for so long.

Yeah, a lot of speculation and it's only three races in. The pre-LeMans interviews were all about where the riders will be going next year. Stoner was visually upset. I think Honda put up with Dani because they invested so much development direction in his input. At the same time, Hayden won the WC in 5 years with them; this would be Dani's 5th year too. I think he gets the same time frame and if he can't deliver, he's gone.

Interestingly, Gresini Honda went back to Showa forks. Given the problems Dani has been having getting on with the Ohlins, I wonder if he'll lobby to get the Showa forks back into the bike? Probably won't happen, but interesting that Fausto made that call for the satellite bikes.

Stoner's a great racer, but such a p*ssy.

Hayden never blames anyone but himself and has a positive outlook all the time. Even when Nicky's RCV was having disastrous front-end problems a few years back, he credited his team and made sure he mentioned everyone was putting forth maximum effort (when clearly Honda had ditched him for Dani...with the new frame and swingarm, etc).

What a class act. I'm always amazed at what great a job Earl Hayden did with his boys.

The Moto2 race was like crash fest. First of all, who thought fielding 41 riders was a good idea? Talk about lap traffic. It looks like a bad day in NESBA B group. Watching 41 riders going through T3 is insane. I think some riders didn't even bother and just dirt-tracked it. But after that, people were just going down like flies. Like a third of the riders crashed in that race. Anyone who was doubting that DeAngelis didn't belong in the lower class, yes, he crashed... again. That guy just can't finish a race! Not a hallmark race for Moto2.

It makes for some great watching though.

Just imagine the carnage with them all going into T1 at Mugello and Catalunya, and even the corkscrew at Laguna if they don't string out by then.

Try to sneak up to the Eurosport booth and snap a photo of Toby and Julian as the carnage ensues. I'm sure it'll be 10x funnier then the way they express themselves vocally.

Correction,
here in Australia they had it frame by frame with Stoners Crash, it was the front that gave way, his left foot slid off just before the crash showing the unbalance, as it was commentated it was the rear oem but post race they went into it.
HAyden also stated the istability issue and it has been the issue for the past few races the front of the ducati is too light.

Full credit to lorenzo he demolished everyone, and is becoming into a league of only Rossi can topple, that is if the young ego can out perform the older ego time and time again..

I am sick of the ducati not making it til the end, it was going to be a promising year for the top 4, now its like the top 2 all over "again".

And im happy nicky is back into racing in the top 5 :)

You don't need a frame by frame replay to see that it was the rear that broke loose, not the front.

Replay of the crash.

Edit: Or maybe he's just bitching about the front losing grip after the rear swung around on him.

It was both! What happened was he pushed the front. As the front started to fold, he did what anyone would do. Get back on the gas to unload the front a little bit. Unfortunately, he just got on it too hard trying to recover spots. His instincts tell the tale, not his words. He may have folded the front, but what he didn't do was admit he was overzealous on the gas.

In another quote (from Crash.net), Stoner cites that it might be "slower riders" that are to blame for his front folding. I don't know if he was trying to throw Nicky back under the bus, but he was clear of Nicky for an entire lap, with clear track in front of him. That's not my assessment. That was Vito G. assessment in response to Casey. Me thinks that Ducati is getting tired of the excuses, blaming the bike for the issues. Vito G. said that it was clear that Stoner was pushing too hard, the front began to fold and he tried to save it.

But in this whole escapade, people blaming Ducati; others blaming Stoner. No one is blaming the tires! For 2010, Bridgestone has brought TWO new construction tires. The hard is an evolution of the 2009 tire while the soft is an all-new series. Stoner has clearly not figured out the new front tire. While Hayden, who for all of 2009 could not for the life of him RIDE on the hard tire, all of a sudden CAN run the hard tire. Most everyone is struggling with making the soft tires work.
