Pedrosa Breaks Collarbone In Motegi Crash

Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa crashed in the first practice session at Motegi today and broke his collarbone in multiple spots.

It is expected that he will miss the Japanese Grand Prix and possibly the next Grand Prix on the schedule as well.

Ryder Notes: Pedrosa Snaps Collarbone, Lorenzo Collars Title
by julian ryder
Friday, October 01, 2010
Jorge Lorenzo may have become World Champion five minutes into the first free practice at Motegi.

Dani Pedrosa suffered a double fracture of the left collarbone. His throttle stuck open on the fast
approach to the V Corner. On-board footage showed the bike wobbling in a straight line and then went
down hard on its left side, trapping Dani's left leg under the bike as it slid into the gravel trap.
However, the damage was done when his shoulder hit the track.

Dani was transported to Tokyo by ambulance and will fly to Barcelona for an operation tomorrow. If he
does not make it back for Sepang next week then Lorenzo is champion.

Seasoned Valentino Rossi watchers know that he is at his most dangerous after a bad race. At Aragon
two weeks ago he had a nightmare, and afterward talked openly of having his shoulder operated on
before the end of the year. To what seemed like the genuine surprise of his team, Rossi was fastest
using a new engine. Jorge Lorenzo will probably save his one new engine for races rather than
practice.

Over at Ducati, the good news is that the set up that was so successful at Aragon seems to have
transferred to Motegi, and as some sort of consolation for Honda Dovizioso is quick. It looks like
we'll get a race on Sunday - even if it isn't for the championship

Is it wrong that I'm happy that Pedrobot won't be there? This season was boring anyways and its not like Pedrosa would have made it interesting. Oh well, hopefully Nicky and Spies can make top 5 or even podium.

He was the only thing making it exciting and now he's out so who's gonna apply pressure to Lorenzo? No one. Pedrosa might not be a likable guy but he can ride like a mofo and he proved that by scoring 90 out of a possible 100 points in the last 4 races. Now he's out and the championship is officially his, prepare to be bored to tears.

"Riding a race bike is an art - a thing that you do because you feel something inside." - Valentino Rossi

“Now I can say my morale is reasonably high because I've discovered I have a great rapport with morphine!” he joked, adding “I hope nobody wins!” when asked about the race. - V. Rossi

yeah. the only highlights left are a couple more podiums for "Elbows".

Broken collarbones suck balls. I've broken BOTH sides, and it's the most debilitating pain in the world.

I don't think Danny will come back to do anything significant, if he comes back at all. I chose not to operate either side, since the bone heals by itself anyway. But I'm sure a triple-fracture is worse and the smart thing to do is use a titanium plate and screws.

They're saying he might actually be back for the next race! Not that it'll make too much of a difference. Jorgay Lorenzo has already won the title and even if Pedrosa had won the race today, he still wouldn't be in with a realistic chance. IMO he should just stay at home and prepare for next year.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On another note, good to see Lorenzo get pwned by Rossi in the race today. Bet he wishes he too had chosen the engine upgrade. Great fight!

I agree. There are some of us who actually like to watch FP1, FP2, and QP.

Though, his collar bone is a little more than broken. I thought today was going to be a boring race. It's nice to see a certain rider back for reals.

Sorry, but it is not over just quite yet. Not wishing any ill will on anyone (even the crybaby Lorenzo), but anything can happen as Danni just proved. Hell, Lorenzo could have ended his title hopes today and if danni came back next week...then what? Tdub

For all we know, when Dorna starts calling back some of Lorenzo's engines, they may find some tampered seals and DQ the races from the weekend that/those engines were run, or maybe something with the electronics.

Wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened. Hell, last year there was a 250 rider who was DQ'd a few times because the fuel they were using was just out of what's allowed.

Sucks for Pedrosa that he won't have a chance to win the championship this year. Looking forward to next year, Stoner with Honda Repsol may win the championship.

As long as Puig is still with HRC, the only person with a chance of winning the championship is Pedrosa, and it's just never going to happen.

Fun's over:

Rossi was "too aggressive"

Funny, it doesn't mention anything about Lorenzo's moves being aggressive??? They were both battling as hard as each other.

Whatever. They didn't crash so who cares. The fan's loved it and Lorenzo's got the championship locked up already. Would they care if he stuffed Stoner or Davizioso like that?

Lorenzo is such a baby. He needs to stop bitching about hard racing and remember how it was when he was riding 250's.

1st off, Lorenzo put himself in that situation, not the other way around. Locked up?? Don't think so. What if...Pedrosa shows up this weekend...Lorenzo crashes out...gets hurt...then what? It ain't over yet. Tdub

Of course anything's possible, but its highly improbable. I mean c'mon. Do you honestly think Dani's can finish at least 2nd in every race and Jorge score nothing? Fat chance. Even Valentino hasn't won with his bum shoulder.

It's easier to deal with a broken collar bone then damaged muscle/ligaments in a shoulder. With a broken collar bone you just have pain and not the loss of strength that's affecting Rossi.

If they didn't have the carbon brakes, I'm sure it'd be easier on him since they really do have to support themselves with their arms under braking. No other choice.

It's all just Rossi's mind games, and it still eats at Lorenzo.

bummer :( pedro would have made lorenzo mess up if he stayed healthy IMO. Would have kept lorenzo from clintching the title so early but im sure lorenzo would have pulled through anyways that dude is on fire. little Pedro is such a bad arss but i see him resting the remainder of the season. No need to risk more injury to his shoulder for nothing. REALLY Big Bummer for Pedrosa!

on another note Waat a battle for third freaking sick!

Haha Jorge went and cried to Yamaha and had someone talk to Rossi...what a punk. I'm sure Rossi took that conversation very seriously

Something tells me Rossi and Ducati got the word that Yamaha wont release him early from the contract, and the whole "my shoulder will give me trouble here" was a ploy by Ducati and Rossi to seek revenge. Might be why he stayed back with Lorenzo instead of going for the win. Make sure he stays off the podium.
