The honda riders are really strong this year not just the repsol but san carlo team also factory backed. Seems like honda is on a mission to reclaim the title.Ducati always seem to me just can not get an upper hand. Hopefully with some rossi input there team and r&d can figure something out. Yammys will always be strong especially now that they followed honda in backing the monster team. It will be an interesting year I think stoner will be top contender for the title unless jorge or spies do something.

Are both the gresini bikes factory? I was under the impression that only MS bike was factory.

On the other hand Jerez doesnt have the long straight that qatar had. Will be interesting to see. Lets go FP1!!!!

The Honda's are so dominant this year from testing and the first round. They just seem to power there way through a turn no other factory team can replicate. Well Yamaha's can keep up at the turn-ins but doesn't have the hp to power out of the turn. The Ducs just have terrible suspension geometry causing them to not turn in and "understeer". Heard rumors that Rossi has pretty much been riding the setup of Stoner and issued the changes he needed to have soon after Qatar. Makes you wonder how Stoner was able to muscle the duc last year.

The area is already starting to get more congested with people already arriving for the weekend. I will be there all three days with VIP Hospitality passes (THANK YOU Collin Edwards!). Stand by for hopefully tons of pics this weekend!

Yea the ducs are gonna have to really kind of find out what there bikes are good at.Right now you can't really tell what it does or what track is more suited for it at least to me.Hondas are know for acceleration Yammy's for good cornering speed just cant keep up with the honda power band. Im kind of looking forward to next year to see if kawasaki and bmw gets in the mix.

yeah ...... it was everyone bagging stoner for being a whiner but he had a massively hard time getting that thing to perform and just could not get the front and back ends to work together..... just hope VR gets it right soon or it will be a 3 horse race to the finish

i dont think that the load on pedrosas arm will be as bad this time out , with out the long straights the brake load will be reduce as will the corner speeds over all , reducing the stress on his arm. the M1 and jorje will be flying here imo, mostly because of the spainish thing....anyone think he will be able to hld it together or will the pressure of that #1 plate get too him on home turf?????

MotoGP’s official tyre supplier previews the second round of the 2011
World Championship this weekend, to which it will bring medium and hard
front tyres and soft and medium rear options.

Bridgestone are preparing for the first European round of the 2011 World
Championship this weekend, as MotoGP arrives at Jerez.

Track temperatures often reach over 40ºC at the southern Spanish circuit
although this year’s race is being run a month earlier than last year’s
event, and Bridgestone are therefore expecting cooler conditions.

Tyre performance at the track last year was good, with Dani Pedrosa
setting a new lap record, and the compound selection (medium and hard
front, soft and medium rear) remains the same as in 2010. In fact the
medium compound front and rear slicks were actually used in Qatar two
weeks ago as well, where the track temperature was around 22ºC – a
clear demonstration of the wide operating temperature range of
Bridgestone’s slicks.

“Jerez is a technical circuit with a mix of fast and slow corners,” said
Hirohide Hamashima, Director of Motorsport Tyre Development at
Bridgestone. “It is a good test circuit because of the diversity of the
corner layout and this means that we require a tyre with a very balanced
character to provide good handling from low speed to high and from flat
corners to changes in elevation.”

“The layout doesn’t generate particularly high loads for the front tyre’s
centre section, and the left and right shoulders are used equally so
asymmetric rear slicks are not required here. The surface is smooth,
meaning not bumpy, which is easier for the tyre’s centre section but the
grain of the tarmac is abrasive.”

Hamashima continued: “The track temperature during the race weekend
is historically high, although the race this year is run one month earlier
than in 2010, but coupled with the abrasive surface it adds to the
challenge of durability and wear although Jerez is not the most severe
from a tyre point of view. Last year tyre performance was good and
Dani set the first of eight new lap records achieved last year, so we have
selected the same tyres this time around.”

I think jorge will indeed win this one especially if he wins pole it will be interesting to see. Yammys cornering abilites gives it one up I also hope ben spies can do a top 5 or podium. Rossi I think will still be in the 4-7 range unless they find the sweet spot during practice and qualifying.

Actually only 4 Honda FULLY factory backed bikes in GP this year. Apart from the Repsol team, only Marco's bike is fully factory equipped. Both San Carlo riders do have Honda factory techs working with the riders. So the team is fully factory backed but only has one factory bike.

Looked into also, this article and a couple more seem to say that both the SCG bikes have full factory bike/support.

Yep that really sucks looks like simoncelli and dovisioso gonna have to step it up in his place. Dovisioso doesn't never do good with getting good consistent qualifying laps. But yet in race time he's in top 5-7 most of the time. Looks like jorge only challenger will be casey mostly.

bad news about danny...really thought that he would be in it this round...
i think stoner may cruise thru this one, grab as many points as he can, jorge might be left alone too pick up the win, spies might also be a winner for the podium this time out, gunna be interesting to see how the all qualify

Its not often that you hear GP riders saying just how good their competitors are but after reading this perhaps Casey is the truth.

“These MotoGP machines – explained Andrea Dovizioso – are constantly evolving, to the extent that every week you must adapt .... I saw Stoner's telemetry, and his throttle control is incredibly delicate. He also uses very little traction control."

And how did you feel after seeing Casey's data?

“It's not that you get discouraged by how fine his riding is, but it does bother you a bit. Casey is able to use the best 'angle,' meaning that he can open the throttle with the bike as straight as possible. It's not true that he is leaning more than others in the corners: he is leaning his body very far, but the bike is staying more upright."

“Our season will be an uphill battle – admitted Loris Capirossi – the bike will improve for sure, because it has a lot of potential .... Looking at Stoner's telemetry with the Ducati, you can understand that he rides it very well, but it's also true that his style cannot be replicated; he really uses the rear brake a lot, and he's applying a lot of pressure on it in situations where it's difficult to do so. In situations where I'm not able to do the same. On the contrary, he is very smooth on the front brake, using constant pressure with it." Link

Everyone always talks about Rossi's mind games, but if people simply look at your data and admit your clearly better than them how intimidating is that?

Hondas dominating again. Pedrosa 1, Stoner 2. Rossi pulled off a 3rd fastest Lap. Highest place Yama was 5th for Lorenzo. Dov just crashed out on the last lap in one of the last turns, walked away looking completely fine. Spies placed a 7th fastest lap.

Less than 1 second separates 1st through 5th.

Pedrosa looked bothered by his shoulder/arm despite placing the fastest lap.
