Rumors abound that Suter is building a 2012 motogp entry around a BMW motor.

Update......

Quote:
As the MotoGP class commences its battle for the final 800cc World Championship in 2011, the timescale for the deadline of entries for the 2012 campaign has been made public.

Considerable interest has been expressed by prospective teams in the new format 1,000cc engine capacity MotoGP class to be introduced in 2012, and the FIM, Dorna and IRTA have now produced an agreed timetable for the selection of teams for next season.

A provisional list of teams will be published following the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France in mid-May. The process will start however with a deadline of Friday 29th April, by which time any teams interested in participating must make it known by registering to receive more information. Teams considered eligible for the class will then be sent a prospectus which will contain the conditions of participation.

Teams still wishing to participate will then be required to submit a formal application by Friday 13th May, which must be supported by detailed information on their project requested in the prospectus. Applications will be reviewed at the Le Mans round and teams notified as to whether their entry has been accepted, rejected or is pending. The provisional list of entries for the 2012 MotoGP World Championship will then be published.

The next step in the process will be the lodging of a security deposit with IRTA, which needs to be made by Friday 3rd June, following which a final list of accepted teams for the 2012 MotoGP World Championship will be published.

From what I've heard BMW was focusing on World Superbike, not MotoGP since they have no plans to make any type of prototype bike. If they raced the S1000RR they'd get smoked and I don't think they want to have a poor showing like that. At least in SBK they have a shot at some wins and podiums.

But we'll see, anythings possible. The more entrants the better IMO.

MotoGP Class Applications for 2012 Season

Sunday, 1 May 2011
On 6 April 2011 the FIM announced that teams wishing to be considered for participation in the MotoGP class in 2012 should register their interest with IRTA. The closing date for expressions of interest was Friday 29 April.

Applications were not required from existing teams already participating in the MotoGP class. IRTA has received submissions from 16 teams not currently participating in the MotoGP class. After reviewing the initial applications with Dorna it has been decided to provide further information to 14 teams containing 21 riders. Those teams will now be provided with a prospectus containing full details of the terms and conditions of participation.

Teams who wish to proceed with their applications will then have until Saturday 14 May to submit comprehensive details of their plans for participation. These applications will be reviewed at Le Mans and teams will be notified of an acceptance, a rejection or pending status.

Accepted teams will then have until Friday 3 June, the first day of the Catalunya Grand Prix, to lodge a security deposit with IRTA. A final list of accepted teams will then be published.

They are limiting the bore/stroke ratio in an effort to limit the power.

The Suter 2012 MotoGP bike looks good. Hope the BMW engine rocks.

I've read that there will not be a factory BMW entry but that's not to say other teams won't use a BMW powerplant. I've also read that Kawi won't be back either. They want to further develop the 10r in WSBK first
