2011 MotoGP Round 9 Sachsenring ***SPOILER***

Half way through the season and already lots of highlights. Laguna next week too..

Quote:
Remember last year’s three races at the Sachsenring? Dani Pedrosa won a re-started MotoGP contest, Toni Elías was victorious in Moto2 and Marc Márquez took the honours in the 125 class.

it is going to be a good race! it has been quite an interesting season so far, i would like to see Marco Simoncelli get a podium this time. He does well in practice, but something always happens. call it inexperience, but he does have a gift and it will show eventually. Rossi should have his new setup a little more dialed-in and the battle between Stoner and Lorenzo is starting to heat up...

You know, I think, for whatever reason, this is happening to Casey a lot. Like more than necessary. Other riders professing that they've gotten out of the way of Casey, but some how they're still too close. Casey even said this about Hayden and Hayden ain't a rookie trying to get a tow. I think this is one of those beginner rider errors. Stoner comes in hot, he sees a rider in his line. Instead of focusing on getting through the line, he's concentrating his focus AND HIS EYES on that rider. What happens? You go where your looking. So, instead of maintaining his line, probably clearing that rider, he's pushing into the rider, pulls up and has to say something. Who cares if lame-o riders want to get a tow? It all works out in the end. If you're going at such a pace, there's no way they'd keep up.

I can't speak about the Hayden situation, but in this case contact was initiated by Karel not Casey. Karel made room for Casey to pass him, Karel then started following Casey and Casey decided to slowdown, perhaps mid corner or during corner entry?!? Either case Karel felt Casey didnt give him enough room to get through safley and Karel was forced to make contact with Casey's bike and lowsided.

I have never understood the problem with tows when the person being towed is clearly SLOWER than the tower. They might get a faster time during qualifying but not enough to get a better postion. The tower also doesn't get additional turbulance unless the person getting towed is an inch behind their wheel. I clearly see an advantage when both riders are at the same pace the second guy will clearly get a better qualifying lap in. Apart from feeling the person being towed didnt 'earn' their times any idea why the top guys HATE towing people around? You guys have any ideas?

I do think Casey does get upset about this WAY more then other riders do. Do you remember the skunk he placed on his bike during testing a few years back?

Ironically enough the one time he got seriouly injured was because he slowed down to discurage Barbera from getting a tow from him.

That's a crazy picture. But Barbera is the most egregious of violators. He looks for tows all the time. And contrary to what you said, he ALWAYS gets a better grid spot than if he didn't get a tow. Problem is, he's not that fast and inevitably, he fades in the race. I think that what's more problematic isn't that riders get tows, but someone like Casey can abruptly slow down such that the towing rider will crash. Sort of opposite of what he's been talking about regarding safety. He hates people being in his line as it poses a safety risk, but he's okay with parking it so the towing rider has no other avenues but to crash.

Glad to see Sylvain Guintoli out there. Capirossi just needs to retire, especially with all that garbage about, "Only I ride my Ducati," crap.

Your spot on, Barbera always ends up with the top speed of the session or a better grid placement than he would have without a tow. What I meant is that even with a tow from Casey/Jorge/Dovi/Spies or Dani, Barbera is not fast enough to displace their grid placement. Where as if either of Casey/Jorge/Dovi/Spies or Dani gets a tow from another top guy they are garunteed a better placement then the person towing them. I guess my question is, if Casey is being followed by a Karel or Barbera why would he get so upset if neither of them are going to displace him on the grid due to the tow? Is there a detrement to Casey due to the tow? I mean Casey slowing down mid corner enough to cause Karel to crash seems a bit drastic.

You may get your wish the guys on the MotoGP stream mentioned that Capirossi hinted at a retirement announcement some time soon. In a perfect world Aleix E. would have maintained his seat and Capirossi would have retired last year. I really have a soft spot for both the Espagaro brothers, its always pleasent watching them in each others box during GPs last year or them congratulating each other in Moto2 this year.

The weather seems good for Saturday but suspect for Sunday. Its been mentioned before but this year it seems the GP circus can bring water to a desert due to all the rain they have been having this year.

Stoner on pole and set the pace on hard tires. I just hope that translates to a full race from him before tire wear kicks in.

Dani surprised me with the second spot, it always seemed to me he was slow from injury recover compared to others.

Things are not looking good for VR, apparently the GP 11.1 experiment might be aborted in Brno. Bet you NH has changed his mind about wanting to get his hands on the GP11.1.

"We are very upset, because we are struggling very much this weekend. I am very slow and close to last,” said a despondent Rossi, who was lucky Loris Capirossi wasn’t healthy and riding or he’d be the last on the grid. “For three races now we’ve used the new bike to try to improve on the performance of the old one. I tried this bike with the 1000 engine and it was not so bad, but with the 800 engine the bike became very difficult to ride and I cannot load the front of the bike. So our performance at the last three races has been very, very bad. Especially in practice. And here it has been worse. So now we think maybe to come back to the normal, standard, bike. I don’t know when. Maybe after Brno We will decide after tomorrow. We’ve tried changing more or less everything on the bike and at the end the lap time and our performance does not improve. So I don’t know what we can do for tomorrow’s race, but we won’t give up and will keep trying to improve.” - VR link link

What bodes even worse for Ducati is the performance clause VR wrote into his contract and the paddock rumor that he might exercise it.

"Valentino Rossi is performing very sub par so far this season, the situation has become dramatic with Ducati running around in circles, confused and despairing over what else that they can do; with a 9 times world champion who was supposed to be the Italian fairy tale, the marketing dream and with him the beginning of a new Renaissance era in MotoGP, which has now turned into the Dark Ages. According to the rumors coming from Italy, Rossi may want out of his Ducati contract ahead of time. Apparently his two year contract has an option for the second year, which on hindsight (and remembering Marco Melandri) may have been the right thing to do. An option for the second year would allow him to wiggle out of things if they didn’t turn out well (and they definitely are not) but dropping Preziosi & Co after one season would mean leaving with a big egg on his face, his tail between his leathers and his reputation as an excellent development and feedback rider shot to high hell and leaving the big question of where someone like Mr. MotoGP and his team could go after burning bridges with both Yamaha and Honda." link

----On the Rumour Mill
- Seems all the crashing MS has been doing hasn't endeared him enough to get a guaranteed factory bike from HRC next season, but Ducati is very interested. Not sure he would want to do that after seeing his GOAT BFF having such a hard time this year.

- Dovi playing hard ball with HRC last season to keep his factory seat, in the long run will see him on a satellite team riding a customer spec bike.

- Oh yeah Stafan Bradl is going to get CE's bike.

Great races for Moto2 and MotoGP... Great finish for the big boys...

I'm surprised the Rizzla Suzuki is getting back into the top 10. Bautista has found something right on that bike....

Glad to see Pedrobot back on pace. Hopefully Spies/Hayden make a podium next week.
