Gresini to use a CBR1000RR motor next year?

From superbike planet:

Gresini to Use CBR1000RR Engine in MotoGP?
by staff
Tuesday, September 20, 2011
The line between 1000cc MotoGP and World Superbike machinery could blur next season if Gresini Honda follows through with rumored plans to bolt a Honda CBR1000RR engine into one of its bikes next season.

Marco Simoncelli will continue next season on a factory Honda bike in Gresini colors, but Fausto Gresini is reportedly having trouble raising funds to lease an HRC machine for his second rider. So Gresini is considering a privateer entry with a Moriwaki frame and a FireBlade engine, according to the sources in Europe.

Honda reportedly has no philosophical objections to the plan, but HRC superdomo Shuhei Nakamoto doubts a tuned CBR1000RR engine will be competitive against bespoke MotoGP powerplants. Nakamoto also said Gresini's costs for this privateer plan would escalate higher than expected because a custom frame must be produced to accommodate the FireBlade engine.

I agree that the 1000rr engine won't stand a chance against the prototype engines. Trying to get 240+ HP out of it would be impossible IMO.

WSBK bikes aren't too off the pace of Moto GP bikes now a days. Maybe in the right hands it might have a chance.

But remember MotoGP bikes are only 800cc's right now. We'll see what they're like at 1000cc. From testing, a lot of the riders have said they're quite a bit more powerful.
